shop bench magnifying glass

Sometimes I use a simple loupe like this.
Must have been a cheap one.

Side question: is Optivisor a brand?

Speaking of the need for extra light , I keep a flashlight near by always and have one on my key chain for the menu's in dark restaurant .

Yep, I know exactly what you mean when eating in those "low end" restaurants with sub par lighting - always figured they had something to hide in the food. "IF" it was really good food, they'd have enough light to see it {g}

Found this pair of headband magnifiers on ebay. Claims to be an Optovisor with 4 lenses for 15 bucks and free shipping. I've a feeling though that it must be an offshore knockoff. May be a step up from HF however. Optivisor knockoff??

Sounds like a good deal - even "IF" it's not Optivisor, it's got 4 different lenses that "claim" to be glass. For $16 shipped with 4 lenses - I might be tempted myself and I've got an Optivisor with 2 lenses. $16 is less than the lenses cost. Here you can see cost of single lenses for the Optivisor: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005KLTM94/

Good find on ebay - wonder why the inside bottom of lenses holder part wasn't shown - that's where the Optivisor info "Made in USA" etc is located.

edit to add: I just placed the order - it will be handy to have 2 sets of Optivisor with different lenses in each. Sometimes I wish a low power lenses for more depth of field, other times I like more magnification even at cost of less depth of field.

2nd edit: After placing order I noticed his feedback score - not so good and with 108 neg in the last month, but that is out of 5,000 positive, so maybe it's not so bad. Didn't find any neg comments on the Optivisor.

Well can, I guess we'll find out together... I just ordered a set a few hours ago. :rolleyes:

He's got a 98.4% FB rating, not too stellar, and I'd prefer higher, but I didn't see any complaints about the magnifier and he's sold almost 50 of them in the last month.

OK, I got the headband magnifier today - it's NOT an OptiVisor. Just a copy. The lenses do seem to be glass, I could not cut edge with a knife. They are VERY close copy, but not exact. I think they're worth the $15 shipped, but realize it is a copy. Even with glass lenses, it doesn't seem "quite" as good as the glass OptiVisor lenses I have.

Tony, what did you get?
