ive settled on the brute for general camping/chopping work, but i also need a shorter blade for prying conjevoi off rocks and smashing open shells, and maybe some worm digging.

does anyone know of a shortish(6') meaty blade with a very tough tip, it would have to be SS(or a bloody good coating) because i'll be using it around salt water.

i have looked at the SRK and the campanion, but both of those blades are not SS.

what would be perfect is something int he shape of the SRK but is made from AUS 6-8 or some other kind of SS.

any suggestions?

go with Fallkniven. they are stainless VG-10, an excellent steel...

the a1 is SRK-like in size and dimensions...the f1 is probably more useful if you've got a brute along with you...

how thick is the balde? i want one that is EXCESSIVELY thick right to the tip. the F1 looks alright, it would be good if the blade is atleast .200.

ummmm, maybe i should compromise and just get an A1 and forget about the brute.

but that would mean the A1 would wear out very quickly, and that semi bowie tip would be of serious concern, especially for what i have in mind for it.

skinning and dressing animals is definately not on my list of chores, so i would have no need for a fine cutting tip. what i want is a tough sturdy sharpened SS pry bar:)

The Buck Intrepid won't have the same edge holding ability as a VG-10 blade, but it fits perfectly with the "sharpened prybar" description. Comes in two sizes and is highly corrosion resistant. Designed by Kit Carson.

like the tanto blade, but costs abit too much and i dont need or like the secondary cuting edge.

good knife though

Junglee makes a knife that looks a lot like the SRK. It's called the Tactical Drop Clip. It's made of Aus 8 steel.

I don't own one, but, Jeff Randall has a review on his web page. http://www.jungletraining.com/junglee.htm

I think it is also available in a larger size than the one in his review.

the junglee would be perfect if it came with a Kydex sheath! and there arnt many custom kydex sheath makers around this part part pf the world.

ok, criterias have changed.

scrape the sharpened pry bar.

does anyone know of any 5'-6' SS drop point with a kydex sheath..

doesnt matter if its not as strong as an ox. ill only be using it for gutting and doing fine work around the camp.

anyone know anything about the SOG government?

I use a very cheap Frosts brand stainless knife for that application. The knife invariably rubs against rocks etc and will also rust no matter how well you take care of it. There is really no point using a good knife. The cheaper knives in low grade stainless are also more corrosion resistant.

im settling on the seal pup, i wont be doing any prying, so it should be ok.

i like the blade for its sharpe edge so i can gut fish with it and cut soft baits

Try Randall Knives saltwater fishing/diving knives.

The are made of stainless (440B) which is quite rust resistant and come with a fairly comfortable micarta handle.

The best part is:

"Available for delivery within 6 to 9 weeks."

I would get the model 10, 3 or 5 inch depending on your preference.
