Should I try it.....??

I have a 49-01, sweetest bali I own (currently ;) ) and ever since the day I got it I was wondering about switching the blades with a 47 or a 43, all of the dimensions of the blade are the same (length, thickness, width). I could have a skeletonized kris, and a beautifully weighted clip-point bowie or drop-point tanto that I could speed along with.

Or I could wait for the 49-03 and just flip the hell outta one of those (provided it is not double edged). I don't have a problem flipping a doubled edged but I can't pick up the speed and force that I can with my Ti 4X's, SS 45's, or old customs that are single edged.

What are your thoughts on switching the blades on a 49-01 and a 43/7?

Not advisable. Those 49-01 handles were each hand fitted to those specific Kris blades. If you look at the channels, there's a raised curve towards the end, near the latchgate wall, and it might interfere with the blade from either the 43 or the 47.

Secondly, having spoken to Travis, one piece of information, as yet unconfirmed, is rather disturbing. There's a good chance the entire 49 model run will be all Kris blades, with each release having only different handle treatments (ie inserts or finishes). This is because BM's long standing rule for model numbers is per Blade style, so all 49's will be the Kris blade. This DOES NOT MEAN they won't release any other blade styles with the new handles. If they do, they'll have their own model number. So with 40T, 42, 43, 47 and 49 in current use, and 44 and 45 from prior issues we only have 41, 46 and 48 available (unless they come up with another model series numbering).

There already was a BM-48. It had SS handles and a utlity style blade.
Well that still leaves 41 and 46 open. Of course, they do have the 40x series with only 403 and 404 used.

Geeeesh Cam... ...we buy you books...send you to school...and now you are getting WILD..lol.

The youthful exuberance is always refreshing  ...but leave the darn thing alone and enjoy it!!

Have Eric make you some handles for the Bowie blade, and just roll-flip that 49-01 to satisfy your need for excitement :)

I may have to send that 4lb Balisword back to you, and you can hide it under your bed and do single aerials using a catapult to get it airborn..lol.

Drop me a line and let me know what's going on with the West Point stuff.., and DO NOT dismantle that 49-01!!! (He's taking it apart as I type)....Arrrrrrgh.....

Hmmm, they said they are thinking up to 49-07, the 49-01 took a while to all sell out, I don't think they'd be able to sell another 600 very quickly, even with the different inserts, unless they had different blades (deep belly bowie, scimitar, mariner, stiletto etc).

I guess I won't do it then, part of it is the curvature of the inside of the handle, another part is the other side of the blade avoiding the spring loaded latch (notice how the kris blade goes past where the screw is for the spring), and the rest is I am scared to take apart a $600 knife, what if I screwed up the threads on the pivots or did something to the blade :barf: I'd have to run myself headlong into a cinder-block wall.

Pete: I didn't get a nomination, one might become available in the spring (if a nominated person declines) but I doubt that. :( I'm going to try to get some scholarships to pay for one year of college and I will re-apply for the following year, and I will get in. The physical aptitude test I have to take is cake, I can smoke almost all the highest numbers (especially in standing long jump, I can beat that by 1 whole foot, easily :D).

Thanks guys for the input, I guess I'll just have to pick up the old customs if I want the weight (or if I ever receive my Monarch!!!! )

Well...a year of waiting won't hurt Cameron.., you've certainly busted you stuff in the effort.

I'll write you tomorrow for the details.., but the Forum needs a West Point guy sneaking aerials after late-night studying :).., so store the idea for now and keep it "alive"....

Talk to you tomorrow :)

Pete, I told Cameron to consider ROTC. He'll wind up with the same commission (minus the locked in career path), but at least he'll enjoy college life more (as in more beer and other leisurely pursuits). But does he listen? No.... Can't blame the Monarch thunking him on the head without a helmet, since he doesn't have one yet. :D

Cameron, smart move. I don't think those pivot screws on the 49-01 is gonna be easy to knock out. ;)

i must say i agree to this. one, two, perhaps three kriss' is cool, but if we're starting to talk about 7-8 models (and not that different) with kriss profiles, i think ppl would start getting bored.
'oh, look! bm49-06 is finally out!'
'but wait... it's a damn kriss, just like the 6 others before it! :barf: bah!'

so why not create a new scenario:
'oh, look! bm49-06 is finally out!'
'wow, look at that extraordinary scimtar blade profile! i GOTTA have that one!'

at least i hope they won't all be kriss'... that would really be a waste of resources... or something... ;) all i'm saying is that i want to se something else but kriss! :p

....There was a PC401, 402, 403, & 404, if I'm not totally mistaken. They were the 'standard' blade styles: Utility, Tanto, Bowie, and WeeHawk....

See, I'm not perfect ;) Thanks for the painless correction Dawkind. Of course you know that this means I'll have to try and find out about those models. I only have the 403 now... :D

Oh, what the hell. I have 2, and have another on the way.

I was right about it not being able to close, but the handles did fit.

Tony, there's something just... wrong with that. ;)

You wouldn't happen to have any detail shots of the spring-latch mechanism would you? I'm curious to see it, will the spring eventually wear out?

Very couragious of you Tony!! Very nice:) Hell, i guess if you have *three*, why not!
