Well I need pics of your convex sharpeners, since I ordered my pocketmuk with a convex grind, its my first convex but hear they cut like lasersso I figured I'd give one a try. I was thinking of some foam glued to a stick with the stick having some slots cut in it to hold the sandpaper. What do you have?

I usually just use a mousepad with sandpaper followed by a strop with green compound and finish on bare leather. 1000 to 2000 grit is usually all thats needed unless you are reprofiling a flat grind. I found that finishing with bare leather really works for me.

I use emery board(wifes nail files) or her buffing block or when I'm hiking I carry my leather strop roll

I use a strop bat from JRE Industries.

I use a two-sided leather-over-wood strop. The one side I have loaded with green compound and the other is bare leather. If they need anything more serious than that, I'll use my Japanese water stones. I'll see if I can dig up a pic or two.

By the way, Ridge-runner, your system sounds great. Sandpaper over foam does an excellent job.

All the best,

- Mike

I use mouse pad, sandpaper and leather strop with green compound as well. This setup works very well, I even reprofiled some of my scandi and kitchen knives with it. A word on mousepad: I found that thin/soft kinds (without textile/polymer on top) work better.

I found a large mouse pad without the hard plastic top at Office Depot for like $8 I love it so far. Its nice to have a large surface 1ftx1ft or so works great for the chopper. I still need to build a good leather strop though, been using an old belt.
