How many of you guys have Traditional Scandis and use them?? Show them now, lets see who has the biggest stash! Gene

No actual pictures from me, but I got this set from http://www.ragweedforge.com/FinnishKnifeCatalog.html
Leuku and Puukko combination:
5629.jpg

They came literally shaving sharp. Let me say right now that the Leuku is NOT a chopper (wasn't designed to be), but at cutting flesh and brush it excels. I used it to carve up the ham we had last weekend and the roast beast we had last night,a nd it was almost effortless cutting.
The puukko was used to trim up some steaks, and then for eating them last Saturday, excellent cutter. I used both for stripping bark, making fuzz sticks, etc and they were excellent for that and very easy to hone up afterward.

Only complaint is with the sheath. Not that it's of poor quality, but it's just very different from what I'm used to. I'd prefer a belt loop to the knotted loop of leather, and you have to be careful on putting the knives back, especially the Leuku, as they have to be oriented right, or it will just cut into the sheath, which takes a bit of fiddling around for me. The other thing about it, is the sheath always seems to leave fuzz and such on the blade that has to be wiped off before use (it's not from cutting into the sheath, as most of it is on the spind side of the blade). However, the knives are very secure, but not hard to get out. Just something I have to get used to.

Here is one I put together from a Helle Blade.

Scandi knives just seem to be the "original" bushcraft design:D

My meager collection with my more modern versions of the SBT and Fallkniven's H1:

I still have a few I want to try from rageweedforge (a large Leuko is on my short list) and there's a couple of "budget" puukkos from Kellam knives that I want to give a shot as well.

Nice collection Metis...

Sweet knives guys, I am going to post some pics ASAP..I am really liking that Falkniven...that is sweet! Ilbruche, I really like the ones that are home made as well...I am working on 2 knives right now, and then I think I am going to try a Puukko...I am going to ATTEMPT a traditional sheath as well. Great shots guys...Keep em coming. Alot of the Puukko's that you can buy have a slight secondary bevel, has anyone removed this completely...I did, and the cutting only got better. Gene

first one i'm making.

forgot to photograph my raven's head martinni, but oh well.

the ferrule will cover the first pin, unless i want to drill through the ferrule, not sure about that yet.

MS Cantrell...what did you use for the ricasso and butt?? wood?? I have had this idea for a wood and birch bark handled knife.
Gene

Here's mine...I love the Javenpaa..the Wood Jewel is my first from this company and seems great for the price. I am most proud of my Aito. The little one on the left is one that I found at a antique/ junk store for $15!

Here is a beautiful custom I received in a trade here on BF. It's my favorite small fixed blade. Very acute edge, extremely comfortable handle, the slight angle of the blade makes for comfortable whittling and the sheath is very attractive.

Here's an older model Brusletto that's my all around knife. Just enough weight and length for decent chopping and batoning ability. Not as much of a dedicated cutter as the first one.

That looks like the Finish Utility knife off of Ragnar's site. I was thinking of getting one of those a while back, how do you like it?

I LOVE it !!! It is basically the Aito with a wood handle. You can't go wrong with either. I am actually sitting here with the utility, planning some finishing touches on the sheath and handle. I will say that the Aito might be the Best feeling knife I have ever held! No lie, I am REALLY impressed with my Javenpaa's performance, and edge retention. I can't wait to try out the Wood Jewel. Soon, I will have some Skookums in a pic (3 months, AAARGH!) I can't wait to get out and use these new guys here. The Leuko is a great knife to throw in the pack, it can slice through large branches like butter and can draw out a flat on a board like no other. Great knives that I love to have in my collection...I feel funny walking around with a Puukko and a Becker BK9 or Busse FBM....but hey, whatever works is good with me:D

If more people would figure this out, many forums would become infinitely more hospitable.

Thanks for the review of it, I may have to pick one of those up too. My want list is getting a little too long for my own good...

(Utility puukko, Russell Barlow, CS Trail hawk...)

My favorite part of collecting Puukko's is the pricetag...thats why I bought the Aito..short of the really fancy ones..I have already bought one of the most expensive ones...so the rest are cheap.

Yep, lignum vitae... I got a little leather dye on one end, so I had to do it all. LV is usually much lighter, of course :)
