I was stationed at Grissom AFB, IN with Sid Birt before he retired from the Air Force. He was NOCIC of the base firing range and I was NCOIC of Security Police Training/Scheduling. Twice a year he and I qualified all of the Security Police with the M-16 and .38 revolver down at Camp Atterbury. Three other Security Police and I helped him do some work on his log home before his retirement. He showed us his workshop, we cooked dinner and stayed overnight. He told me that he would make a knife for me helping. I was discharged from the AF in 1979 and a couple months later I received a letter from him verifying my address so he could send me my knife. A couple weeks later I received a beautiful knife and sheath that I still have today safely tucked away in my safe deposit box.
