Had a chance to use my new toy to thin out some bushes this weekend. It is a 7.375 inch 5160 blade with mircata scales. I had some red-tips that were getting out of control on the side of the house so I went to work. The knife sailed thru limbs 1-2 inches in a single swipe. Branches took 3-5 depending on size. Where I was really impressed was how effective it was on the tiny limbs less than an inch, the kind that move with the knife when you hit them. The sweet spot on the blade was most effective here and before long I did not have much more than the core of the bushes left at the bottom.

The blade did not ding, roll, chip or dull when all was said and done. After all the sap and excess was cleaned off with a flitz bath and scrub and I wiped it down with a fresh coat of oil and it was still sharp enough to shave hair. I do not know that I will ever be able to tax this knife to it's fully extent, but it will be fun trying.

I hope to have tougher stories that show the capabilities of this knife in the future. I cannot wait to see how it preforms on 2 x 12 treated deck wood. I have a pile of that left over from removing a deck last year.

Any pictures?

We have to be careful with these positive reviews. You know how Bill's head tends to swell and then he can't grind a straight line for a week. That is probably how he ended up with this recurve in the first place.... Wait, what's wrong with that? Yes Bill makes a great knife. Very comfortable handles, solid functional blades, and safe and secure heavy duty sheaths. :D

Lets us know if you need any help reducing that old pile of boards into wood chips.

I knew you'd be here. Are there any others in our little Bill Siegle fan club? I still think you need two of those knives so I can have a match for my RC, but that is only me:D. You know what they say, one for use, one for backup. As for pics, I wish. I was tryin to work a trade for a new camera but it did not go thru.

I talked to Bill and he said he would take care of the coating for a fee. Sure you don't want to save me the funds???? Come on and help a brother out!!!

Bill's knives are great. The 5160 diff/treat works wonders. For cutting up the 2 x 12 I will try and have a camers borrowed so I can see how it measures up to some of my other knives.

Great review! Bill's knives are excellent. I can't tell you how jealous I am of N2S's "little" collection there!

Somebody is USING a custom blade:eek: Thanks for testing the knife. I am happy to hear it is performing as it should. I am curious to hear how it does on the treated wood as that stuff is pretty tough. Just amke sure not to burn the wood afterwards. The fumes are poisonous. I'd hate to loose a fan. Keep us informed of how the knife holds up over time. Feedback can only make em better :)

Dude those are sweet! Was that a one time run? Those that got them must keep them hidden. I never see them.

Yes-sir that Hoodlum is awesome.
Iv'e seen a couple of them, and I know I need one!
I think it was a nine inch blade or so.

I don't see how you could resist using one. It just begs to smack something.
It probably won't hurt it much even if youre fairly rough with it.
