Hello all

Would someone be able to tell me if the Chinook II and the Manix are able to be completely disassembled/stripped down by the end user?

Warranty issues aside (I know it shouldn't be done), they look like they should just unscrew apart easily.

Would the lanyard hole tube hamper this endeavor?

Thanks for your time.

The first gen Chinooks can't be disassembled as they are riveted. Chinook IIs and Manixs feature screw construction and are able to be disassembled by the user (probably not recommended by the company however). Careful with those flimsy pivot washers however. You may want to have a set of phosphor bronze washers handy when you decide to undertake this task. These can be ordered from Darrel Ralph at knifekits.com

Not sure if the newest models already have PB washers or not, but the very first Chinook IIs had those blasted orange ones (if I'm not mistaken). I'd have to check mine to be sure and I haven't had a reason to take it apart yet. It is still butter smooth. But you can bet when I do find it necessary to take it apart, I'll have a pack of washers on site.

Also, my CII doesn't have a lanyard tube. Do the newer ones have this feature?

From the look of the pictures on the Spyderco website, both the Manix and the Chinook II have the lanyard tube.

Can anyone else confirm this?

For what it's worth. The Military has the lanyard tube and it doesn't hamper disassembly/reassembly in any way. In fact, you'll admire the simplicity of this thing when you see it, if you ever have cause to work on a Mil. Adds mucho strength to the overall structure while performing it's original task (being a lanyard hole).

Genius is often displayed in simplicity.
