I was cutting through a piece of hose with my RC-3 and there is some resinous, sticky smegma on the blade. My question is not how to get it off, but rather are there some kinds of cleaners or solvents that will harm the coating on the blade? I want to keep my RAT pretty.

Thanks, but I already got it off with some WD-40 and elbow grease. My question is, are there any solvents or cleaners that are going to harm or remove the coating on the blade?

I'm always getting black Scotch-33 tape residue on my blades from cutting wire insulation. I find that CRC Penetrating Oil takes the gunk off pretty quick. Not sure if it is harmful to the knife; I clean it normally (soap & water) immediately afterwards, and notice no ill effects.
