my byrd crow came today.

Very nice indeedie

its smooth, well constructed - as far as i can see sofar with soft sharpening is good steel. i had to remove the clip and bend with my Gerber 600 Pro Scout to make it where you could use it . . but i ended up taking the clip off since i only use my knifes for pocket carry , but i may put it back on perhaps.

The coating of black seems weak, But i think they should use the epoxy coating as with the Ka-Bars have. apart from the black coating i see no bad points - and this is not even a bad point it simply could be better.

And as for the lock . . Pfft ! i have no issue with it. I dont think i could get this lock to slip withought a lump hammer. Very good solid locking system

My rating for this Byrd Crow is 8 out of 10
My reason for this is , my dragonfly clearly was easier to sharpen due to the shape, but the dragonfly gets 9 out of 10 ( apart from the fact the blade is of smaller size ) i would upload pictures, but i dont see anywhere to upload them. So here are the links to the photos i uploaded to my web server:

Thanks for the review and pics TECHWG.

I personally like all my byrds.

OBTW:
byrd steel isn't exactly soft at around HRC 61. You'll find this out when sharpening.:D

I tell you what! i had to bend tremendously on the clip to make it usable . . it was stiff as rock! but i decided to put it back on the knife as if i need it i have it . . and from what you just said about the steel, that would make it batter than like AUS-8 and ats-55 ?

IIRC, one of the members over at the Spyderco factory forum said he thought it performed better than AUS-8. Most of the time, unless I'm cutting something hard, all it takes is a good stropping on a piece of cardboard to bring back the edge. It gets "mean" sharp too.

Personally, I like the stiff clip. I lost two knives already to a weak clip (not Spyderco's), and don't care to loose more. I know others have complained about the stiff clip on these models.

So, did it hold up to your theory about being a cross between the D'fly, and the Delica?

I believe it is exactly what i wanted to have. I will not like when the black wares off, but maybe my wax might make it last longer. it is the inbetween of the delica and the dragonfly yes !

i think this knife is by far one of my best EDC yet. i have replaced my dragonfly now and crarry the Crow in my pocket instead.

Love the looks of that knife ......... except the black coating. Any idea if they're going to release one without it?

I dont know if they are even going to do that.i would buy one thats for sure at some point. One question i have is: Is the coating safe... and what i mean is if you are in the middle of nowhere could you eat your dinner with it ? because a lot of people in the US use pocket knifes at a pinch to eat food with if they cant find anything else.
