i'm in ann arbor, MI (zip 48104) and i can't get reception on my satellite radio. i just installed it in my car with the antenna on the inside of my trunk lid and i sat in my car for probably 10 minutes waiting for it to "acquire signal."

am i doing something wrong?

also.. what if i leave this thing on when i leave my car? am i going to come back to a dead battery? do i have to turn this on/off every time i get out?

on a side note... it's sad that i have one of these (it was an xmas present) as i spend most of my time on my bike rather than my vehicle.. ;) and on a side side note, TSA airline security SUCKS cause they searched my checked baggage and now my radio remote control is missing.

The antenna is line of sight it has to be outside your car on the roof or outside on the trunk. It cant work inside your car or under bridges stuff like that. Once you get it working you will love it, I have had mine for a year and wouldn't be without it.

It doesnt use much battery power, I dont have a switched cigerette lighter. I left mine on for a whole weekend and Monday the car started right up. My wife is lucky she has a switched lighter so when she turns the key of the radio goes off. She is lucky that way.

Hope this helps.

thanks for the quick reply rugbymatt.

i'm headed back outside to move the antenna.

shazaaaam i'm up and running.

sound quality isn't great. :(

i think i'll invest in a direct connection from the sat. to my car eventually. broadcasting it over FM just ain't gonna cut it.

thanks.

I have Sirius and love it, especially Hard Attack 27. Glad to hear you got it up and running. For 12.95 a month you can't beat it.

Check out siriusbackstage.com for more Sirius nuts.

Ann Arbor, MI is pretty far north. Keep in mind that the satellite is in geosynchronous orbit over the equator. So, the further north you go, the weaker the satellite signal. There are terrestrial repeaters that boost reception in most major urban areas, but I don't know about Ann Arbor. Try to keep the antenna pointed due south.
