So I received an email from a guy that is looking for a skinner/Hunter the other day. Ive never made one and don't get to skin out much except for squirrel! Anyway, I don't really take orders but I want to give this style a shot. He is a custom collector so he has knives by all the greats and it is kind of intimidating really. He saw that Alans Nessie I posted on the main exchange and liked the style so....here we go. I have been thinking about the design for a couple of days and have come up with something I think might work. All you more experienced skinners speak up. I would like your feedback. I wanted something that had a curved butt, slimmer blade, and of course alot of belly. I think a guard would be great but I don't make them so I kind of added one the best I could. Oh, and he is trading me this kick ass custom slipjoint for it! Check out that handle! Be honest, I need some help
Here it is. I added a choil in front of the guard and rounded the front spine for detailed work. Its different but comfy as hell. What ya think?

I'm not sure on the term for this...maybe a quillon...or extended choil...I don't know, but rather than a guard maybe just a little room to hold the blade just after the choil to allow the user to choke up on the blade. Other than that thin slicer blade with lots of belly and a comfy handle. Also, when I am skinning, I like to put my pointer finger up on spine when i am making precision cuts and need to really control the blade, so maybe some functional file work that can act as a good place to put you finger.

chris, filework? Lmao

You know that red micarta knife was the uglyest m.f i ever made lmao!!

No file work! Id butcher that. Alan, I was thinking the same thing on the forward choil. Here ya go along with his current skinner.

Chris...I like the belly/shape on your blade...maybe think about dropping the point a little like Bill's

Are you coping that pattern? Its gonna be hard to compete with edge retention with his hollow grind, that s.o.b. Is prob crazy sharp

Yeah I suck at drawing! It will be a drop point but not as much drop as usual, I want more belly towards the front. It will look better when ground!

No, not doing that pattern, just wanted to show what he was using now. I think a more curved handle would feel better than the straight one on that Bose. That stag is freaking awesome though. lmao!
