Skyline cracked

I have a Skyline and I took it apart the other day to clean it and I noticed that the was what appeared to be hair by the thumb stud, but it was not, it is a crack that goes from one side all the way across the spine to the other right by the thumbstud. I am sure that they will cove it, but I was wondering if anybody else has heard of anything like this. I do not beat on it, I carry it everyday to work and usually just cut tape, paper, packages, and boxes...no beating on it. Sorry about the pics, iPhone does not like taking pictures up close.

Yeah, reports of it happened with press fit thumb studs show up here and there. I've seen it mentioned in the Chris Reeve Knives forum before, for instance.

Maybe you should re-titled this "Crappy kershaw cracks by thumb stud."

They'll fix it for ya!

THAT's interesting! I never realized the thumb studs were pressed in. I always figured they were screwed in.

I to have a hairline mark on a 0550...tho it doesn't appear to be a crack... does not appear on both sides ... nor can I "feel" an edge by moving a scribe over it...looks more like something that occurred during manufacturing or marking process. Cleaned area with Acetone...still there. Will take knife apart and check with perform die penetrate test.

I think this one is a crack. If you follow along the spine to the crack, there appears to be a discontinuity at the top. I'm guessing the OP can tell for sure running his fingernail along the spine and see if it catches in one direction.

It is definitely a crack, I can feel it by running nail over the spine.....good eye! I am going to send it in this week.

You can clearly see the difference in height from one side of the spine to the other - a crack it is.

Never fear - Kershaw is here!

(there should be some super hero Kershaw guy)

You've not met Thomas? :p

No need to contact Thomas on this one - it looks like a cut and dry thing, and it will be covered. Just contact the Warranty Department by email or phone, and they will get the knife fixed for you.

Okay, thank you everyone for your help. I was not posting this to get help, but I appreciate it. I just wanted to see if anyone else had seen this before. I have never had this happen to a knife, so I thought that I would share.
