How about a general slipjoint forum?
This knife style is more popular than many people seem to think.
Just look at all those SAK knives out there!
Not to mention all the others.
Such a forum would be very popular, I am sure.

I am eagerly awaiting my first custom slipjoint.
Single blade, Ironwood handle and a touch of the Persian in the overall shape.
Anyone own slipjoints by Russ Easler?

There was a thread about this a few months ago. Many people, myself included, felt that a slipjoint forum would be a good idea but others including Spark (if I remember correctly) said that would implement such a forum any time soon.

I've given up on the idea. It's been brought up twice in the last 9 months, and shot down every time. I think it's a sensational idea.

Great idea with a couple of avid supporters. It doesn't seem to catch on though.

Every time this comes up I heartily endorse it!
So do dozens of others.
Come on, give the people what they want.
I mean, to me, P J Tomes and Tony Bose are 'da bomb!

Looks like they just started a SJ forum over at KF.

Bastid and or I am ready for one :D.

The criteria for new forums remains the same:

1. There must be a need for it
2. There must be sustainable traffic for it - not just the initial "pop"
3. There must be qualified moderators.

Just because "KnifeForums" is doing it doesn't mean we have to. I prefer to look before I leap.

I haven't activated this forum because each time it comes up, too few people say they will participate. Not "dozens and dozens" by a long shot.

See, only 8 members have posted in this thread -- so far. If there are enough members interested we'll do it, but it takes a lot more than 8 members to make a viable forum. So, if you're interested speak up!

Actually, I wasn't going to bother responding to this thread at all. It didn't seem worth bothering, as the idea has been shot down so many times. It's not that I wan't interested, but didn't have much faith that another try would be met with any more seriousness than it had in the past.

The easiest way to show that there would be a viable forum would be to put [slipjoint forum] in the title of your threads that you think would belong there. After a month or so Spark could simply do a title search and look at how much traffic the forum would get.

Spark / Cougar, Answer this question.........If there is no need (interest level)
why does this question keep popping up??

There a several forums here that have low traffic and still are accepted a legitmate
forums. As to looking before you leap..........Operating a forum such a this takes
a huge leap of faith in the first place gain a "customer" base. However, Keeping
a customer base is always the larger battle. Why not "leap" just a bit further to
put this issue to bed instead of avoiding it.

It will either fly or die. Either way the issue of a slipjoint fourm will be settled.
From what I read here Bladeforums is about to be caught napping.

Hi,
Just wondering what all the chat is about?
What is a slipjoint?
Could someone post a photo?

Thanks,
JP

Look, we didn't get as large as we are today by running around like chickens with our heads cut off. We have more than double the membership and ten times the traffic of other sites because we follow a formula, like I outlined above.

The idea is not to fragment discussion until we have 70 forums like the "Red Headed, One Armed, Half Blind Stepchild Knife Forum" with no traffic. And yes, every so often I do prune away forums with little traffic.

So, I have my process for opening it, and until I'm satisfied there is a need for it, with sustainable traffic, it doesn't get opened. I'm not inflexable, I just my bases covered.

As for "Why does this keep popping up" - nobody said people weren't interested in SlipJoints, or CRKT Knives, or Cold Steel Knives, or anything else under the sun - it's a matter of covering the bases first.

I did a whois search and www.slipjointforums.com is available. :D

Seriously I'll have to say that I see this topic come up. I see the same few people who are interested. And I see it fade every time with little to no support.

I mean heck, I did a search and there have been 6 posts in various forums specifically about slipjoints in the past month. Not what I'd call a mob following.

I've always loved slipjoints. But come on, can you really discuss them in their own forum for very long? I mean you'd run out of topic material in what, 20 threads?

:)
