I recently got a Case XX R5254SS Trapper. I know that the steel isn't comparable to stuff like Aus-8 or BG-42 but I was just wondering if it would be a nice enough traditional knife to lug around with me.

I dont see a problem with it. Case knives are pretty nice for the money, I have a few myself. The steel is not the best in the world, but its decent, and will hold up plenty well for daily use. I dont have any problem re-sharpening mine. Carry it and enjoy it.

I do like Case knives for the great variety of natural handle material. I got a little blue mini canoe I carry for dress up. They are fine for cutting threads, envelopes, etc. Even then you should always have a locking folder or small fixed blade to go with it as they are only for light duty. Imho.

Thanks guys! Yeah i still carry my Mini-Commander for the bigger cutting chores, gotta love the wave on that thing.:)
