So I was browsing the traditional forum the other day and my wife happened to notice how beautiful a stage handled jack-knife was. She said it looked like it was from an "old-time".

Anyways she mentioned that if she had one she'd want one with a corkskrew. So basically a knife for a small woman, who travels often, with a corkskrew. I think it would be a clever surprise to get her for Christmas. Any suggestions?

Hey that looks right on. Lots of tools she would actually use. I always carry a SAK but she goes on many weekend holidays in the countryside with her girlfriends.

Some of the Laguiole knives have corkscrews, I don't recall seeing one in Stag but they do come in wood and horn.

I would recommend a Swiss Army Knife because they're easy to replace if lost, wide variety of models, and travel-friendly appearance.

If she's really interested in a vintage knife, Bruckmann corkscrew knives show up all the time on eBay. And due a huge warehouse find several years ago, the prices are very reasonable. Many have natural handles or beautiful celluloid, and jack-knife blade arrangements. Here are some of mine:

Lots of choices out there. Good luck deciding!

Nice little collection Bob. I kick myself for not picking up one when SMKW's had them.

Yeah, I didn't know about them back then either. Many of mine were purchased from AG Russell, and the rest were found on eBay.

That is a great collection of Bruckmanns Bob W. As you know, I love corkscrews.

Neitron here is a stag-handled jack knife from older times and it even has a corkscrew. Unfortunately, I don't think it readily available though. The Boker looks great or you can't go wrong with a SAK.

No stag handles, but they are still selling 84MM Vic Sportsman II at Big Lots for $7. Can't do any better then Vic quality, or Vic warranty (lifetime). Plus, at $7, you can get a few back ups as well for the price of one Boker. Can't beat that!!

Those Bruckmanns are NICE!!!!!!!!!!!! Seems like that pattern was really popular in Germany for a long time.

Wow, I really like those Bruckmanns! Would it be a bad thing to buy one as a user? Maybe buy 2, one use, one collector, lol.

Thanks guys.

I think it would be great to buy one as a user. There are so many of them out there that it's not hard at all to find a couple of duplicates, one to use and one to set aside. The wooden handle models with the corkscrew and one or two bolsters are especially common. Expect to pay $20 - $50 each on eBay.

This image shows most of mine all at once:

Hubertus (http://www.roedter-messer.de/hubertus-messer.htm top right) ? Not cheap, but great stag and beautiful overall finish. There is even a 'hook knife' for opening champagne bottles.
Or a G. David Laguiole with stag scales (http://www.schneidwarenkontor.de/pr...69&messer_id=c72c7fff49b0caf7eb7f2d4a8ef3b3f8) ?

The Hubertus corkscrew knife is beautiful. Thanks for the link. I think the curved blade is a foil cutter for wine bottles.
