I'm looking for a small throwing knife ( or knives) I can practice with inside my apartment, any suggestions? Also if I do end getting something made what size/weight/design would work better on a smaller thrower. BTW the max range I'm looking for is 8-11 ft.

You can use just about anything at that distance, including a screwdriver, scissors, file, letter opener, etc. Based on your throwing technique, it need not be balanced.

I'd get the mechanics of a short throw down first, then look toward a knife. The knife you'll likely have for a long time--long after you've moved onto bigger throwing ranges.

This isn't the best advice--others can point you in a direction of a quality throwing knife. I'm merely offering an alternative idea that you may not need to invest in a knife at this point in your throwing career.

By the way, welcome!

Thanks for the input. I talked with my instructer earlier tonight and he told me start with nails and use a military throw ( which I'm just learning and not really comfortable with it yet ) so it's off to the hardware store for nails, tape, paint and stucco. . .

That's just . . . that's just crazy
My landlord would kill me then revive me and make me buy another door. . .

You want cheap small throwing knife trainers? Go down to your local Goodwill type store and buy a bunch of inexpensive butter knives. If you want a real point file them down. Stuff a big cardboard box with newspapers and let fly.

For indoors, I like sharpened aluminum crochet needles or knitting needles (whichever are just spikes, I forget). They don't bounce around as much as steel, but you loose some range. I cut mine to 7", chuck them in a drill, and run the drill as I hold a file to the tip to sharpen it. Poor man's lathe.
