small wood sebenza vs. custom

I currently have a small classic Sebenza that I think is terrific, razor sharp, good lockup and tough. I want my next knife to be about the same size but to have wood scales. My question - For about the same price as a small wood sebenza I could get a custom with wood scales. The knife will be carried and used. What do you recommend and if you recommend a custom, do you have any recommendations? Thanks.

Sounds to me as if you are completely satisfied with the Sebenza. If you just want some wood on your knife, then I think you would be entirely satisfied with the wooden enlayed model.
Not only are they made to be used, they can be refinished later if necessary.
Hard to beat the Sebenzas, one might be tempted to say Sebenzas Rule.

BERM,

IMHO, it's going to be hard to find something you will like as much as a small wood inlay Sebenza.

The action is smoother and the wood feels great, also gold color thumb stud and spacer.

I just can't bring myself to use it.

RGRAY, I love your Woodie. If you ever want to sell, please e-mail me. Happy Holidays Fellow Sebenza Lover. Alohaaaa!

I have one and love it, here is a pic and also a link to a very BIG closeup of the wood inlay....what is nice is the wood is inset into the titanium and is raised above the scale a bit as well, it fills out a little more than the regular one, the closeup shows this pretty good..

Other custom makers can do wood for you but it doesn't seem the same to me!

I have a small sebenza woody but would also recommend that you take a look at the wood handle knives by Tom Mayo (www.mayoknives.com) He offers blades in 440v, 420V and talonite and they start at $325. I have one of his large titanium handled TNT's and it is just about the smoothest opening folders going. He also puts in a lot of energy with the handles making them comfortable and ergonomic.

I love my small woodie. Easy to open, sharp and the wood fills out in your hand nicely. If you use it, you will get "charachter marks" no matter how careful you are. But you can send it back for refinishing and that is a big plus. Tom Mayo makes some very nice knives but I would have to say that my woodie is at least as nice as any custom I own. The wood gives it a warm natural look and a good feeling in the hand. The inlay makes it so that your thumb naturally slips down to the thumblug for a silky opening, locks tight like a vault and the blade is very very sharp. I think CRK puts extra work into the inlays. The knife is my constant companion. Did I mention how much I like it? Rick has one really nice collection. Some of the knives that he posts I would be afraid to pick up except with soft cotton gloves. Here be my baby!

Thanks for the input. It now looks like I am in the market for a small wood inlay Sebenza. If you know anyone who has one to sell with a darker wood, please let me know.
