A friend of Mine recently showed me a Colt Defender
(90?) In .45. I sort of fell in love. I decided a
while back to get myself a 1911 and was looking at the
springfield armory "loaded gun" package a sort of
tricked out 45. looking at that compact Colt just re-affirmed
my decision to pick up a 45. what I want opinions on is
I guess full size or compact. I can comfortably shoot either
but I'm thinking the smaller frame would be easier to conceal
should NM ever get off it's @ss and pass the carry bill.
Opinions guys? What other compacts do you guys reccomend
in the 1911 frame.

I owned a Springfield Champion loaded model and it jammed like mad! Their customer service was really good, but they could never get it to stop jamming, so I got a refund. That is my only experiance with Springfield firearms. I still want a 1911, but I will probably get another brand. Good luck, Reagan

I do not know the comparison in size to your defender
but this has been one big bang for the buck - do not think
they have been made for years - feeds ball and Winchester
Silvertip like a greased goose and no jams clean ejection.
It is light and recoil is more but you have to take that for
compactness. It is a little bit larger than the Detonics of its time which was a hot seller for compact 45.

if i wanted a .45 compact i would get either the kimber ultra carry ( a great gun, my bud has one, accurate/reliable/small, what else can ya ask for??)or one of the new glocks, either the single or double column mag depending on my hand size.

Since you are looking for a "1911" style .45, I won't suggest a Glock Model 30 or 36.:D. You might want to take a good look at a Para-Ordnance P-12 or the smaller P-10. They are very nice little pistols.

have ya ever tried a glock?? i was a confirmed gock hater till i tried one, now i love them, and if nothing else they are 100% reliable, something which cant be said for all 1911's out there, unless its w/ball ammo.

also, lots of people freak if ya carry a 1911 conmdition 1, though it doesnt bother me, and actually i think it may be safer than a glock, but it freaks people not familiar w/them.

if ya want a 1911 style pistol thats gonna run right outta the box, go w/a kimber, unless ya got the $$ to go for a wilson/clark/etc, in the $1500-$2000 range. just about anything else is gonna need some work MAYBE. one bud got a colt commander, worked fine w/everything, another got a colt full size series 80, and it has probs. go figure, i woulda thought if ANY of them worked, the full size would.

but kimber is the one imho, a little higher than some, but will go outta the box.

i also suggest ya try a glock, ya might like them, i sure did, imho the glocks frame seem to absorb some of the recoil, along w/the dual recoil springs, they dont seem to kick like a 1911, to me anyway.

either one is a good gun i guarantee..............
