Does any one know of a source for Fairbairn`s design? The mini is prima facia absurd.

If Les and Mike were less involved with their own little war, perhaps someone would pay attention to the forums.

ghostsix,

I do not know of anyone that is presently producing the Smatchet. I have a WWII and a Wells Creek and am looking for an Al Mar and Buck for my collection. I have seen several over the last four years at various G&K shows. The last one was on a table at the Knob Creek MG shoot. Sorry I do not remember the dealer. He was asking $350 for the knife. I have been wanting to get a custom maker to copy the design with a couple of changes for me. But, I have no need for one to use anymore so I am just trying to fill out my collection. I've always been partial to the bolo size blades.
If I run across one again I'll get the dealer's name and post it to you.

Ghost Six,

I know who makes the mini-Smatchet.

However, I dont think you have shown the proper sensetivity to the traumatic ordeal that Mike and I have been through.

Consequently, I dont think I will tell you who it is.

Now, I hope in the future that you will present your posts in a sensitive and politically correct format.

In the words of Rodney King..."can't we all just get along!"

The maker is Bill Harsey.

Les

I was going to say something, but due to the incensitivity of this thread, I forgot what I was going to say.

Oh yah, I remember now. Ghost, I have a source of some of the largest smachette style out there made out of L-6. Custom and a great price. hehehehe. Maybe I'll tell you.

Actually, I think Ghost was trying to tell us a mini-smatchet is an oxymoron, like military intelligence...

Hey Cobalt: I followed your directions, but this is still posting under my signature and not Cliff's. Cobalt? Cobalt?? COBALT!!!
This was all Cobalt's idea, Ghost, I'm just an innocent bystander, you understand? COBALT, I'm going to get you for this!!!!!

Rusty pegged it.I must confess that sensitivity is not my fort, ask any ex-wife/girlfriend or my future ex-girlfriend.

Ghostsix, sensitivity is not always a good thing, people thus overly endowed usually have little ability to enlighten others. You are not hampered in this respect.

That is a wise thought Cliff. Some people, due to their past performance, have the liberty to speak freely. They will never be generals,of course.

Okay,10" and 12" bladed Smatchets made from blued 3/16" L6 type steel. Cast alloy handles over a full tang wrapped with paracord and capped with a thick steel plate for hammering. Very affordable prices, they hold an edge very well and they`re tough as nails, real using blades. I have one of his 12" Trench Bowies and I`ve been really happy with it. Contact Dale Sandberg at Eight Dollar Mountain Foundry http://home.cdsnet/~edmf or 541-597-4821. He`s a heck of a nice guy. Marcus

In reply to who makes-em: Approximately 6-8 months before the much respected Col Applegate passed away, I spoke with him on the Smatchet subject. (I already had an Al mar w/serrations and wanted another). Col Applegate told me that he had licensed Boker to produce the smatchet. At last years Blade show, I spoke with Boker who stated that they were producing the mini and had plans for the midi versions. Then, when asked about the maxi, they balked, stating that tere were no plans at that time.

Maybe we have to prove that there is a demand for the maxi. E-mail Boker or talk to them at the show.

Good hunting!
Ed
