Smith & Wesson Neck Knife

I picked one up on impulse a few days ago. I like the sheath, cheap zytel and all. It is reasonably smooth and comfortable to grip, though it could use some good paracord wrap. It's about the right size, though for the same money I"d also consider a Schrade Sharpfinger in 1095. That piece, howewever, doens't have the same kind of sheath. I used the S&W to pull a cork out of a wine bottle (there's a novel use for a knife!) and put a little dingy in the edge. I haven't cut much with it yet, which is really the only way to truly test a knife, so I might not be much help. But, yes, overall, I like it for the money. I do prefer more protection for the index finger, so again I'd also look at the Sharpfinger. Good luck.

Compare this knife to a Darrel Ralph Straight Krait custom and you will see it is an absolute ripoff! S+W stole the design from Darrel without compensation. Then to add insult to injury they put a whistle on the dad-gum sheath! S+W went on to pay Darrel for other projects, such as the HRT, but this was a ripoff of design, pure and simple. This knife is of very poor quality. I wouldn't use it for any critical application without back up. If you do a search from a few years back, you will see that I am not the only one who thinks that way about the knife.

In 2 words IT SUCKS, I've had one for awhile now and carried it once and never again it gets dull in the middle of your cut, the sheath is bulky, and the handle gets slippery when its wet. I'll stick with my little livesay Woo.

an arclite is in the same price range, but a much better knife. the blade is only 420, but for what it is its a good knife. The ag russell d-2 arclite is a higher step above with a d-2 blade. Kydex is a much better material for sheaths (such as the sheaths for the acrlites), more impact resistent and flexible where as the cheap S&W sheaths are hard cheap abs plastic that can easily be broken, cracked, ect.

for $19 dollars from ag russell you can get a 420 acrlite, for $49 you can get the much better d-2 model.
