My brother-in-law and I were cruising the back roads the other day looking for some adventure. We spotted a large cliff face on the side of a steep hill.Having already packed our gear (packs+snowshoes+beer) we set ourselves to the task.
Here's a view from the "start" of the hill.

The snow here was deeper than at home.

(FYI-That's an up shot not a straight ahead shot. The grade of this hill was nuts.)
What's snowshoe climbing like?Tough and frustrating most of the time.try staring straight ahead at the snow cause the grade is so steep only to have the crust break away as you try to climb and you end up sliding down further than you just climbed.Yeah.It's fun like that.:grumpy:
But like most things you grit your teeth and you push on to the top.man all that work was worth it though.it was really nice up on the top.

We established out campsite the traditional way.we dug a big hole.

we got a fire going in our snow crater and we were quite warm for most of the afternoon.

at meal time I realized i didn't bring my multitool so I didn't have a can opener.I turned to my ESEE-4.Worked like a charm.
Just as we started lunch the weather turned on us and the snow started to fly.Hard.

the trip out was much more fun than the hike in.

My Brother-in-law took this one of me trying to get down the hill without breaking my neck.
Snowshoe climbing is a tough but rewarding way to spend a day.If the weather hadn't turned on us we would have been there for much, much longer.

:thumbup:Great stuff

It hasn't snowed bad in almost 2 weeks over here, but it has been quite cold. We still have about 2.5' on the ground, but the top few inches is ice. Digging through it is going to be a PIA this weekend for a camping trip we are doing.

You're pics are making me want to blow through this week in a hurry!!

Great pics! I've never been snow shoeing but trudging up that hill looked like one major pain. Good to see you got back down in one piece also.

Hey Savage, what part of Canada do you live in? I sink in past my knees without snowshoes in my back yard.

Cool, I've been there before. Anyways, you guys have been getting pummeled this year, at least you know how to enjoy it.

great pics man, here's 60 degree's so all the snow is gone!!!! makes great hiking weather!!!!!

Nice pics, that weather looks shitty.

can't wait for spring, very soon..........

good stuff, man. for climbing, i find that it helps to have trekking poles or make shift ones...just something to plant in the snow and push up against.
