Hi y'all, I've been thinking of buying a Busse BAIII when my tax return gets here, but after checkin out the HR, I am leaning towards it instead.

Can anyone list the Pros and Cons of each knife? Keeping in mind that I'm a College student trying save for college next fall. Thanks.

How long after you place an order are you billed? Right then, or when the knife is ready? (I plan on paying via PayPall)

Wildmanh,
I'll let others give some pro's and con's before I tell you what I think :D:D

However if you order via the website and pay with a CC you aren't billed until it is ready to ship. If you pay via paypal there is no option but that you are billed right away. There isn't an option to order from the website and pay via paypal. I hope that helps. :D:D

So Eric, how would I go about ordering then paying via paypal? (don't have a credit or debit card so Paypal or PMO is the way I'd have to go)

Now, I really want to know what you think.:D

The only way we can take an order via Paypal is to send us the money and order both through Paypal at the same time. Otherwise keeping track of the order and payment is a headache.

When you want to order contact me at swampratinfo@insightbb.com and I'll give you all the details

:D:D

Thanks for the Info Eric. I'll be sure to do that when I order.;) Now if my Tax return would just get here.

BTW Anybody know what the HR and BAIII weigh plus where there balance points are?

Hi Wildmanh,

I have no experience with the BA III - only with the BA-E and HR or bigger Busse knives.

After I got my HR, I carry her nearly every day. I had chopped breech with her and slices onions too. It is a great knife for all work. :)
O.K., chopping had been better done with my bigger Busses-knives, but i almost works with my HR.:p

:D :D :D In my opinion ( comparison ) between the HR and the BA-E chopping sounds different. The BA-E chopped with a "clack",- "heavy and nuclear" and the HR did it with a "czeck", - "several bites and piranic like" .:D :D :D

Enjoy your decision, because if you get one Rat or Busse, it will be not the last...

I like them both. I currently have one of the Howling Rats on order. The price was easier to swallow at this point and my CT needs a companion. For the money they cannot be beat. Here is what I do, get the lesser of the two for yourself first, then ask for money od the whole knife from friends and family that never know what to get you. It has worked pretty well for me so far!:D I hope to get a BAIII real soon.

Hmmm. This

Just ask yourself a few questions first.

1. How hard am I going to beat on this knife ? Both are excellent, but INFI is the superior steel.

2. Do I prefer the the Canvas Micarta handles or the very firm Resiprene C ? Again, both are excellent and have great grip when wet. If your going to be using the knife in colder temps (without gloves on), the Res C handle is better (no contact with the steel).

2a. Do I like an exposed tang with the skull crusher out in the open, or a hidden tang ?

3. Is the $108.00 extra for the BA-3 and the differences between the 2 knives, economical for me at this time ?

I hope this helps ;) . Either way you can't go wrong :D .

1. How hard am I going to beat on this knife? Not too hard.;)

2. Do I prefer the the Canvas Micarta handles or the very firm Resiprene C? I'm not to sure since I've never handled either. If Resprene C feels anythink like the Zytel SOG uses, I'll like the feel.

2a. Do I like an exposed tang with the skull crusher out in the open, or a hidden tang? Exposed tangs are nice, but cold weather use is a concern.

3. Is the $108.00 extra for the BA-3 and the differences between the 2 knives, economical for me at this time ? Well, if I got the HR I could spend the extra $108 on afolder I've been eyeing for a while.:D

I wonder, Can anyone tell me where the Balance point is on the HR? I'm hoping it balances about half way between the butt and tip.

BTW thanks for posting the Pics.:)

One other difference I didn't mention is the choil. The HR has a useable choil. Unless you have very small hands ;), the choil on the BA isn't very functional.

Hm, never used a knife with a choil. What advantages does this give me?

Scored on the Folder and a bunch of other knives.:D I think there will still be enough left over for the HR. Somebody stop me before it's too late.

It's already too late, just give in :D.

The choil is nice if you want to use the blade for more precise work. You would choke up on the blade, hold it forward of your usual position. The choil give you somewhere to rest your index finger besides a sharped edge :o
