i am new to khukuri's but the one that always seems to be with me is my Chiruwa horn AK by Bura--as i have started collecting and using my kurks this one seems to be the one i always want with me--i have some that maybe are a little nicer--maybe a little smaller--but this one just seems to do everything--strong as can be--chops to beat all hell--can you ask for more??--so far with what i have i don't think so  :)

BAS for me. My favorite all-around khuk.

I love HI Khuks. Just got a 30" siru. Don't carry this one with me except on formal occaisions. :D :D :D

Keep them in rotation. Daily or weekly, a different one. That way, you can keep them oiled, brass shiny, edge sharp.

Of course you need one on the coffee table- great conversation piece. And in the back of the car, just in case.

But like firearms, khukuries require maintenance, so keep an eye on them. Preventable rust on a weapon is unforgivable (so says my Bilton, who I wasn't paying close attention to) :(

Noticed some wierd scale, like calcium, on the brass on a BAS I left in the back of my vehicle for a month or so. Took some scrubbing with Brasso... never seen that before.

Oddly, my sharpest khuk is the one I have used the most... why am I surprised? Shelf queens don't need to be sharp.

my kumar karda has seen the most use.
i gave my father-in-law a jkm and it is being used daily as an electricians' knife.

:) Interesting...my first HI was a Chiruwa AK...and is still the one I grab for real work 95% of the time. It's been beat, scratched, dulled, polished and sharpened time after time, as well as experimented on with hamon lines, finishes and so on. I have uses for the others (including a couple of Queens just to be treated as royalty) but that one is usually the go-to.

The JKM sees the most use as I always have it on me. As far as full sized HI products go, the AK bowie is my go to blade. I've made that public enough, i'm sure:D. I have a lot of speciality khuks for choppin' and poking holes in stuff and SD. The Ak bowie does just about all those to the degree that i need in a very handy 15" package.

Really can't walk around with a khuk strapped on you around here, think that would probably be frown upon... though I always sleep with a 20 (ish) inch WWI model under under the pillow...... but then again, people say I'm a little too paranoid ....

How's that tired old saying go?.."Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you";) Don't sweat it. Lots of us sleep with khuks by our side. An HI katana replaced my trusty Louisville Slugger last year, and my office at work is protected by no less that 3 khuks.

BAS was my first, and still one of my favorites. My M-43 is a close second, but to tell you the truth, they're all great. I've got them all over the house.

I tend to have the 15" Siru that I first purchased. It is the perfect size to fit into my computer bag and take with me on (non airplane) trips.

General outdoor chores: 18" AK with Terry Sisco custom low profile sheath with leg tie :) I almost always grab this khuk for most every job!

Longer hikes: 16.5 Chiruwa AK by Murali with Rosewood handles (even chakma and karda have Chiruwa Rosewood!!)

Bedside for defense: 20" Kobra ---ideally I'd like an 18" Kobra at 1oz per inch ratio but the 20" is just fine :D

Most of the time I carry my 16.5" WWII by Bura, the other part of the time, I carry my 20" Sirupati by Bura... But recently I've been thinking about my 15" Sirupati for more descrete carry. :)

For me it is a 21" chitlangi by Amtrak. It was one of the first khurks that I got from Uncle Bill and has remained one of my favorite. It has taken each and every beating that I have given it and has suffered no ill effects except it isn't as pretty as it once was. I would use it for any task except maybe cutting down a big tree, a tree big enough so that I should not have tried to cut it down in the first place. ;)

I still grab my early Sanu YCS the most. It carries well, it chops well and it gives me a nice feeling even now when I handle it. It goes afield the most with me. For heavy beating though I really like the M-43 I have. That is a blade that is an under rated user IMHO. Great feel and a great worker without being all fancy.

For home defense, the AK Bowie is always within arms reach. Thats if they breach the bedroom door without waking me up  If I roll out of bed when they first enter the house  then I'll be a good host and greet them at the door with the Tarwar.

For outdoor use its the WWII Villager.

JKM is probably the most useful of all, just because of its size and portability. Mean little knife that JKM is. Useful too.

Until very recently, it was the 16.5" Chiruwa AK. Nowadays I'm leaning toward the 20" Siru - it's more efficient against brush and smaller branches, which is most of what I have to cut.

my first khukuri, a special order WWII 18" from a forumite. It's like a sirupati with a "belly".

2 years of hard use, no real damage. gave it to my friend for 1 hour, destroyed the tip and chipped the edge on several places.

YEE HAW!
