Last Thursday I picked up my Sog fusion throwers from Sandton South Africa. It was a planned holiday to the Eastern Transvaal and a time to play. I cord wrapped them in 2mm para-cord. Firstly I tried a twist wrap but then they wouldnt fit in the multi-sheath so I went with plain wrap.
The blades were sharp so I was a tad nervous at first but they fitted nicely in my hands for either handle or blade holds.
I did a duck at first light each morning and went hunting trees. After a blade bounced off a tree and skidded off to the side on some tar (a few small knicks in blade) I went deeper into the park.
They are ergonomic and I quickly achieved consistency at 3 & 7m requiring frequent tree change. My 10 year old son was quick to pick up the technique and was with me in the warmer afternoons.
The finish on the blades is still intact although the cord wrapping was repeatedly cut by the other blades and had to be patched up with super glue in my 1st aid kit (otherwise not used). I have since cleaned and re-rapped the blades for my return trip.
It was great to have, at last, a decent set of knives. Some years back my enthusiasm waned due to using general kit and frequent finger slicing. Now to find a decent throwing location in Botswana away from the ubiquitous small stones.
Any one else tried these?
