What are your opinions on SOG? Personnally I love my Flash II! I carry it just about EVERYWHERE! I would not hesitate on buying another one of their knives. The only problem is that they only use AUS 8 for all of there knives.

Look into the Vulcan/Mini Vulcan. Wicked sharp and VG-10 steel .

I have a SOG Seal Pup and love it! My friend has a Seal Team and loves it as well. I don't see any problem with them.
True. I should have mentioned that I have a Flash I & II and a SEAL Pup as well. Both Flash knives came INSANELY sharp out of the box and have held up pretty well .

I'm not a fan. I havent handled any of their folders that didnt have considerable blade play, and I think generally, for the materials they use they are overpriced, or for the same price you can get something a lot better. But if you like it, then kudos to ya.

SOG no longer uses "only" AUS8 steel.

On more than a few of their folders, including the already mentioned Vulcan & Mini Vulcan -
as well as the Visionary and others - they have finally seen the light and switched to VG-10.

I noticed. The reason why I said that was because ALL of the knives that I looked at were AUS 8. I was just looking at the wrong knives I guess!

I love my flash 2 too, it was my first edc choice. They are cheap for the quality.
Zero blade play.
I got mine from amazon directly.
Adorama has good prices and they are well known.

My SOG Pentagon Elite II is probably my favorite folder. Beautiful spearpoint VG-10 blade, zero blade play, a very secure lock, and durable handle. IMO, they're a quality company. Here are some pics of my little friend...

This is why I started this thread! SOG is a great company, but I almost never hear their name come up!

A few years ago they were a real popular company.

Then they rested on their laurels.

It took them a long time to move off of the AUS8, and also they've only recently released some new designs that captured peoples' attention again.

Yeah like the sog aegis, looks awesome in digi camo with black blade.

Well, I'm just glad that they are pulling their shit together, and making quality knives again!;)

....I see the SOG Pentagon Elite II on retail sites listed as having AUS8 steel; was the switch to VG-10 just recently ?

- regards

TheFighter88: Yeah the New steel in the Pentagon Elite II makes it a MONSTER folder! 5" is plenty of blade!

Rifon2: Spot on! SOG used to make great knives - Seki Japan steel. The majority of their knives now are made in Taiwan or China, but nice to see some new knives featuring Japanese steel...
