Hello, everyone. I'm new here and just thought I would pop in and say "hi" and thanks. I just found your neat site the other day while researching a knife that I wanted to buy. This site is very informative. Based on my criteria and info that I read here, I just purchased a Sog Pentagon Elite. It appears to be an awesome knife (I have never handled one). I like to carry a pocket folder, I guess mainly for defense/emergency situations first and then only occasional cutting chores. I like knives that are robust and mean-looking, yet silky smooth in operation. And I like knives that I can afford. I have been carrying the CRKT M16-13Z for awhile but began looking for a new toy lately. So, how will this SOG stack up? Any dislikes? I've read that some think the shark-tooth tip is goofy, but I like it. It means TOUGH. Also, how do you pronounce SOG? Is it SOG as in HOG or is it spelled out S-O-G? Thanks everyone!

ive got a SOG pentagon elite 2. this is the 11 inch overall version, with the arc lock.
i like it. very sturdy,i used it to chop through a 2x4 the other day.the action is smooth,as well.
the tip, although it may seem 'goofy' is actually quite strong.

i think you'll like it.
i call it my 'holy ****' folder.

I have been looking at them lately. I think they look cool. maybe you can help me with a question about it. I read that it is spring assisted. Does it work like the Kershaw Speedsafe knives designed by Onion? Also, I read that it can be flipped open one handed with a flick of the wrist without touching the blade and thus, cound be construed as a gravity knife of sorts. What are your experiences with these concerns? Thanks

I have the Pentagon Elite (4 inch blade version) and it does not have any speed assisted opening. The opening and closing of the blade is very smooth, so there is really no need for that.

no,its not spring assited like a kershaw, but i do believe that the arc-lock might actually help push the blade out when you open it.

as far as your gravity knife concerns go...
if i hold the knife upside down, then yes,i can open it bly flicking. the other way around, nope.if you hold it in your hand, and hold back the lock, yes you can flick it open,so its not considered a gravity knife,AFAIK.

Anyone else own one? Also, how about the pronuncitaion? A few where I live call them SOG as in HOG or DOG. I bet my brother that you spell the name out S-O-G. Who's right? Thanks, Shane

I always pronounce it like a single word like hog or dog. I could very well be known though.

It probably is like hog or dog. I only assumed that it was an acronym like the military's Studies and Observations Group (SOG) of the Vietnam War era. I guess I could have asked in the SOG forum, too. Thanks, guys!
