Can someone tell me if the SOG SogWinder 2 is a good folder knive? I like big pocket knive but don't know if it is worth $100. It is made of AUS6 steel. Thanks

I've had the Sog Winder II for years. I don't carry it anymore because it arrived back in the days of the belt pouch. I hardly wear a belt anymore but it was cool because the pouch was able to be positioned vertical or horizontally. If it had a pocket clip it would definitely be in my rotation.

The quality is superb on my example and the lockup seems tight. The blade arrives sharp and there hasn't been any noticeable corrosion anywhere on the knife.

My only two complaints are that it should be a liner lock and come equipped with a pocket clip. But I can't really fault them because I didn't really see those features which are so common today back then. Still, I think it's one of my favorite knives.

I recall paying around $95.00 or so.

Edited to add:

You're right, that knife sure is big and heavy. But check out how thick the width of the blade at the base is.

Aus 6 is not hard to sharpen. The flip side is it will not hold an edge as long. The heat treat on the winders is good that it will hold its edge better than other aus 6 knives.

Don't let the AUS-6 steel turn you away from that SOG knife. I have a Tomcat, also made with AUS-6 steel, and it's one fine knife. Aside from the fact that AUS-6 is a very easy to sharpen steel, it is also pretty darn corrosion/rust-resistant.:).

I like SOG knives ; VERY WELL MADE for the $$$, If you think $100 is kinda "steep" You might try their
X-42 Autoclip ;) ( price : $69.95
MSRP ) or their Pentagon Elite ( I got my PE from www.cutleryshoppe.com GREAT PRICES!) or try One Stop Knife Shop
( they run this forum ):

www.1SKS.com

BTW : I'm not much on belt pouches,
give me a clip any day! :)

AET ;)
