tony, have you ordered 50 of those?
you know, just mho, when there's a limited number, i think they should limit it to 1 knife pr person... so that more ppl would have a chance of getting one.
No, I just happened to miss out on the 49-SPL, so I ordered 2 which is BM's limit on the 49-01's. Which is also why I'm one of the earliest ones for the 49-01's. If you want one, they're still available, but getting them into Norway is another issue....
can you plz explain more? tell us how it really works etc.? i'm really interested in how it works.
It's a bit complicated in design, but works by doing one thing very well: It keeps the latch from swinging during manipulation. This means no more latch banging the safe handle if swung too fast while trying to close the handles, or having the latch slam into the latch gate for a quieter manipulation.
The spring in the latch mechanism provide a negative resistance so that when the handles are squeezed together, the latch springs out of the way, but stops dead center in the safe handle, protruding out of the handle like a little stub. There are positive detents milled into the receiving handle so that the spring will pulled the latch against the handle when locked in either the open or closed position.
Like any auto spring, it's relatively small in diameter and short, which inevitably begs the endurance question: and I doubt it will outlast those on the old auto (about 1 year on average) if in constant use. Chuck or Clay would be best to ask on the durability of the springs as they've had the prototypes to play with for a while.
Also, because the spring is in the compressed state when the latch is protruding from the safe handle, I'll be storing my 49-01's with the latch in that position.
