Nice place here :D
Now I just poked about reading laws here and want to put down the rules I generally fallow;tell me what you think!

In most places ppl don't seem to realize that even if your local law says you can walk about with a 5.5 inch folder you still CAN'T bring that thing into a post office so-I solve all my problems by carrying 3 inch and under folders, and a leatherman "sideclip" folding pliers.I currently am carrying a 3 inch Gerber Paraframe

This I can carry most any place in the U.S. without hassle;also consider this:if the "sheeple" are freaky about self-defense [like in my home state of California] just use the pliers if it gets bad...it'll be harder to call that a "weapon" then a *gasp* knife.

also I'd like to point out one thing-some guys think they're ok 'cos they're knife is under three inches...but it's an all black "army/commando" knife...I think it's better to AVOID such pocket knives and stick with a plain 'ol folder so as to not have some old peacenik flip out when I go to open my candybar :p

and of course no knives in:schools;courthouses;airplanes;and most of D.C. :D

Krull, the U.S. Post Office is a federal corporation and, as such, its buildings come under the same federal code as any other federal buildings other than courts and, for some reason, the Smithsonian Institution. That code, in 18USC930, specifies that you may not carry a "dangerous or deadly weapon" into a federal building, but then goes on to define a "dangerous or deadly weapn" as not including a pocket knife with a blade of less than 2 1/2". So, the bottom line is that carrying a knife with a blade of 2 1/2" or more into a post office is illegal, no matter the law in your jurisdiction. Now, as a practical matter, I doubt that you would be bothered by the clerks in a post office if you were minding your own business and not doing anything with your knife to attract attention. But I would not be so confidant that I would be openly flashing such a blade about, even if it is in a Leatherman tool.

Didn't know the post office was technically a federal building. I've never been stopped in one for carrying anything. Although once a security guard at a UPS facility gave me some problems, for an unrelated reason. Then again I've never had to USE a knife in a post office, but I've MAILED a few.

News to me, I carry all blade lengths into the post office at least twice a week.
One time a clerk asked me what was I shipping, I pulled my large sebenza out of my pocket and said just a folding knife, he said okay and didn't give it a second look.
