this is the knife I picked up a while ago, I think I bought it but I'm not sure I got it second hand off the forum. and I was just wondering a couple things about it.

It is made up cobble Damascus what kind of steals do you use for your cobble Damascus.

Do you make many knives in the style, both as far as steel and design.

The handle material is snake wood which is very beautiful and interesting but I've heard it can be fragile, is most of the would you use stabilized. would you happen to know whether this one is.

the handle material does not show up very well in this picture, it has a lot of fine detail and a fair amount of luster.
The design feels very good in the hand.

How is cobble Damascus made is actually forged from pieces of steel by hand or is it manufactured in billets.

The knife is my Dankura and is made from Cable Damascus (the same stuff in my FREE knife thread). It is made frmo 1" elevator cable (or similar). Starts out like this:

It is heated up to forge-welding heat and forged into a round or octogon rod. Then flattened out to a billet. Sometimes I fold it over and twist again to "toss up" the pattern a bit. Sometimes I fold in other steels. Haven't made any for a while because of a hand injury.

Anyway, what you are seeing in that blade is cross-sections across individual strands of steel wire..that have been smashed into odd shapes/sizes.

Pretty cool stuff...the steel is similar to 1095. High carbon (for tensile strength).

I was able to do a search and more information, if anyone's following this.

The knife can be translated as Dan's claw, it is meant to be a self defense piece that is good to look at. Dan said it is meant to be used, but for self defense only or straight cutting.

The snake would handle is stabilized and as far as I can tell there were only three made in three different kinds of wood plus another seven and solid 01 with thicker Hollow ground blades.

mine is a little more stubby than the rest they're all a little bit different. The knife feels very good in the hand and seems to be meant to be used with the pinky through the ring, they came with a there a synthetic or leather sheath minus leather with a loop in the middle of the sheath for cerry slightly canted backward.

and steel itself is fairly thin stock .07 to .09 the knife is tapered at both ends with a fairly thin ring.

the Damascus itself is not a perfectly smooth surface there are slight imperfections at some points where the different steals come together, which just adds a little bit of character and I'm sure is quite normal for this method of construction.

The handle is very well fitted and three dimensionally contoured to fit the hand very well.

Doesn't look like he's made any of these for a while, but I think another batch might be well received.

Thanks for the kuds, A druid.

I do have another batch of these coming up....but in plain carbon steel....and not for some time. :(

They are tough to make and take extra time/attention. But make great EDC knives - light and sharp!

It was also meant to be kind of a kerambit version of Dan's lil kazor.
Have a look at his website...
