Something different for my 4th knife

I made this for one of the guys I work for. The sheath is meant to be attached to a Camel Back shoulder strap and worn while running. The knife is made of 2 layers of 1/8" G10 with a piece of 6AL4V Ti in the middle. I drilled a bunch of holes in the Ti and epoxied the whole thing together. I know this won't hold the edge steel will, but this knife was made solely as a lightweight defensive tool that won't be affected by moisture (esp. sweat). This was my first attempt at forming Kydex, couldn't have done it without what I learned here :D . #1 lesson learned: next time wear gloves (ouch!)

Please let me know what you think

What a good idea for an ultra light-weight. Nicely done blade and sheath combination.

I like it. I'm assuming you're friend is a jogger/runner.

I've thought about actually making MYSELF a knife and doing something similar to take while I'm on my mountain bike.

As a personal trainer, maybe a runner's knife should be a new marketing avenue for me ;) Unfortunately, all of my clients come in to the gym and run on the hamster wheel, so they probably wouldn't need one....

Thanks for sharing :)

One way to view the pic when the link gets blocked like this is:
Right click on the photopoint message, click on the 'properties' selection, a dialog (box) will pop up, copy the URL address and paste this address into the address line on your browser, hit enter. You will see the picture, use the back button to get back to the forum.

That's pretty neat patrick. Well put together. I thought about doing that once but using glass inside as a metal detector proof knife...(OK I admit it, I hate the damned things)

Nice knife...show us more

The pictures are back :) I forgot I had to upgrade my Photopoint account. Thanks for the comments! The knife is for a runner who runs a lot on trails in No. Ca. He wanted something as a backup in case pepper spray doesn't work. The have wild dogs (and worse) in the area.

The Ti was given to me by one of my neighbors in the industrial park where my office is. I went over to introduce myself one day and found out that his business is selling aluminum, stainless steel, and titanium to aerospace companies. And lo and behold he has a scrap pile :D :D :D I'm going to be VERY nice to him!

I'm working on a couple more tantos and a spear point, these things are fast and fun to make.
