Well after alot of packing around and using time to replace the old Rod with a New one. This is one of the Original Fire kits and the old rod was used up, Alot of campfire were started with her and time to give her a new rod.:D
I gave the capsule new life with a 3/8" diameter by 6" Misch metal rod. Replace O-rings as well,1 under rod and under cap.

The old ones were attached with a screw,I just drilled & tapped the new 6" rod and bingo bango new life back into my ole' camp buddy .

You're not trying to compensate for something are you?:D you could have made 3 rods out of that one. Nice set up, you should be able to start many fires with that set up.

Bigger is better IMO
I have several Blanks in this size and in the 4" as well....I opted for the 6 just B/C

Sweet. Both of mine are screwed. Cool to know I can drill and tap a replacement whenever I manage to use one up. Always enjoy your posts TTD.

I need to buy a case of Going Gear strikers before he stops selling them for some reason. They're awesome. Next time I drop an order I'm going to get a extra half dozen or so.

I know some peeps dont like it due to it is not compact anymore but I just clip it to my pack and go.... I have alot of LMF mini's,Scout's & Army models not counting 3 more standard ESEE Fire kits.

no issue ,kinda funny using the Drill low speed I think a 5/32 drill bit no sparks ? now tapping the hole just a slight few sparks .... I also added a drop of blue Loc-tight just b/c I like to use loc-tight.
you can do it to the new models after you wear out the Ferro Rod. and then make them replaceable just remember to add an Oring then ferro rod to keep capsule water tight

I had a longer steel like that when I was a teenager and the one thing I remember was that I wore through the middle of it by poor striking techniques. I've learned to use the end of the rod first now and then as it wears down I just move back a little.
