Please forigve me if this is in the wrong forum. I could not find a specific spear forum, and the throwing forum is for AKTA stuff, so I chose this one as "other."

I am interested in spear hunting wild boar on Cumberland Island here in Georgia. I am very impressed with Cold Steel products. I got to play with some of their items at the Blade Show this weekend, and finally meet Lynn Thompson. His video has to be one of the best non-PC videos I have ever seen. It had me rolling on the floor!

Lynn suggests that the Samburu Spear is the best thing he makes. It is accurate, easy to learn, and deadly on just about any large game critter out there.

Cold Steel also sells two other types of spears. Is the concensus that the Samburu is their best?

Try Swordforum - this has been discussed before in there, and there are a few guys who have actually done it.

Make sure your spear has cross-pieces.

Exactly the point I was going to make---I believe that only the CS boar spear has a cross bar to prevent overpenetration (and giving the pig a better chance to come back at you). However, you might be able to mount one on the Samburu. Furthermore, it would be less critical if you were hunting with a guide who had really well-trained dogs.

Several of us are also members at www.huntamerica.com . There is a hog hunting forum there and some of the guys even hunt them with dogs and Bowie knives. Obviously those guys get pretty close to their prey. You might consider posting a question there.
