specbump or junkyardII ?

I can't choose between a specbump ( S30V blade ) or a junkyard dog 2 ( composite blade ).Both folders are equal in size but who knows about other differences . I am not sure but the junkyard dog seems to be a flipper without speedsafe. Also this folder looks very simple ( no safety buttom, no thumbstud , no lanyard hole , ...).The specbump looks very ergonomic and the 3D shape should give another feeling .
Who has used both folders ? What's your opinion ?

I've got a Speed Bump and a JYD II Ti/SG2. The JYD is not AO, but opens very quickly without any wrist action once you get used to the flipper. I personally feel the JYD II composite edge has an advantage over the S30V. It just seems to hold a much finer edge, and tends to keep it longer. I don't own a Spec Bump, but have handled one. The G10 really fills out your hand and gives a great grip.

Summary: a little difference in the ergos, and a big difference in the cutting edge.

Short and sweet:rolleyes:

I had a Spec Bump for awhile, let it go because it did not float my boat.

I have a JYDSG2, and another one should arrive tomorrow.
Love the lightness of it, and the simplicity.

Oh yeah, my JYDSG2 does have a lanyard hole it it.

Exactly what he said. I own the same two (and others), and I would also add this: the JYD II SG2 is a much better slicer overall, while I find S30V excels at being also able to hold a "toothier" edge, which I find ideal for zipping through stacks of cardboard. I find the JYD II to be a little on the thick side for that purpose, and I have other knives for that job anyway, so why not let them all play?

don't have a Spec Bump(yet) but..,

I just got my JYD 2 CB about 2 hours ago and I love it! I haven't gotten to do any real cutting with it yet though, but it sure looks up to the task. The blade screams "cut something PLEASE"!! It's got a great feel in my fairly large hands, opens easily, and just plain looks awesome.

good luck, but I'm sure you'd prolly enjoy either one.

Someone look up the number for 911...gotta feeling Fathead's gonna need it tonight!

No Contest IMO.JYDII's ergos are excellent.I love everything about that knife, except for the GIGANTIC pocket clip.

I'll second the pocket clip complaint. Still fits nice in my pocket and doesn't get in the way of retrieving money/change/whatever from inside my pocket. Do wish the clip wasn't so large though.

i took the clip off my JYDIISG2 and added a gen2 skull lanyard from his thread in the for sale section.. he added 4 inches to the lanyard so i could deep carry it and still easily retrieve...it is even better without a clip....soo thin

I removed the pocket clip too.I can reach it easily enough without it.

That big pocket clip can't be a problem,I could grind the clip tip away into a oval shape (or something like that).Maybe some extra grinding on the G10 handle could make it extra ergonomic.I could try it , the knife isn't that expensive , it' worth a try .It's a potential "custom-Kershaw" knife for me .
I also like the simplicity of the JYDII and I've got good experience with D2 steel.

i dont own either of these knives but have used both im my mind he JYD II is much better. it has a better design, cutting edge, and is much more durable

I look for the JYDII .It's looks to be a user and otherwise that composite blade looks awesome . It's an extra for any collector

I love the JYD2 and the Spec Bump. I'm glad I don't have to choose. The Spec Bump is an older design, so it doesn't get as much attention as the JYD2, but it is such a fun knife to own and use (love the stud lock!). It was my first favorite Kershaw, so it holds a special place in my heart.

The JYD2 is such a great knife, both ergonomically and functionally, that deciding between both knives might be an exercise in futility. Just get both and save yourself the trouble. If you stick around here, you will own both eventually anyway.

Gotta agree with Jeremy here. The Spec Bump is a fantastic knife, but it is so completely different than JYD2 that it isn't really a matter of which is better, so much as, which do you prefer. I prefer the Spec Bump to the JYD2 by a bit, but I am probably biased since I've had and carried the Spec Bump much longer.

Both is the best solution. And then of course all varieties of each...

Two of those three points are subjective, plus I doubt the durability claim.

While I may pick up a JYD in the future, I'm in no rush. The proclivity of drop point blades these days just doesn't do it for me.
