Has anyone used speedhooks before? Not just put in a kit but actually caught fish with them?

If its good enough for Oprah its good enough for me...
:)
Does look like an interesting design/idea.

Ive used them,,not designed to land the big ones,,,but they will keep you from starving, while your out taking care of other needs.

We used them in South America a few years back and they work for smaller fish. But you can also make a 'bush hook' with an overhanging tree limb that works well also.

In what capacity would these appear on the Oprah Winfrey show?

I have not because I don't know if they are legal here or not to use. I have some because some friends have used them with great success.

Another thing they are good for is bunnies and squirrels. As cruel as it might sound.

I have no experience with these things...how do you use them for birds and squirrels?

Place them on an animal run like a drag snare, they hit the hook and it gets set. If you can bait them, they get hooked in the mouth which will hold them longer than just getting hooked in the skin or meat. Problem would be baiting them! :D

I was in a bit of a rush because I was taking a break from playing 500 Rummy with Wife and Son. :D

Birds would be a better target because berries would probably be a better bait and get more birds, etc.

They do work well for pan fish though.

The same way you'd use it for fish, just place it for trapping a land animal and bait it accordingly.

EDIT: Don beat me by one minute! Good point on hooking birds.

I saw them on the Best Glide website. You can get them directly from the manufacture too.

Here is the Oprah connection. I got it off the owner's home page.

I was even on the Oprah Winfrey show when she had a show about inventions. She was so impressed that I was the lead-off guest out of all the other people on the show. Also, a professional fisherman, named Jack DeBord called us about having the Speedhook™ on one of his shows. His show on cable (The Family Channel) was called “The Midwest Angler”. Soon after we met, he flew me down to Lake Okeechobee in Florida and we fished from sun up to sun down. It was a great show, I out fished Jack 84 to 4. He was so impressed we did another show and he became a spokesperson for the Speedhook™ for 1 year. John Husar, sports editor for the Chicago Tribune, did three articles about the use of the Speedhook™ for catching white fish in Lake Michigan and presented the Speedhook™ on his cable show (ESPN) called “The Outdoor Writers Show”. The Speedhookä has been shown on “MidWest OutDoors”. With them I have done shows on Crappie & Blue Gill, ice fishing, and Walleye fishing in the St Joseph River. If you have the chance to watch them, check them out, they’re pretty cool.

I have one in my kit but have not caught anything on it yet ? I have better luck fishing w/my PSK fishing kit
