What is the best type of spray adhesive to use for attaching sandpaper to a disc sander or granite "sanding plane". 3M makes several types, 77, 72, 75, 76, 90, 74, and 80 (as listed in my McMaster Carr catalog). Ideally I want something that I can spray on and stick the paper on, maybe position it a little, sand some, then be able to remove the paper and slap another on with out a messy cleanup each time I switch grits, but it also has to stick strong enough to hold the paper on a disc sander and be nice and flat. Basically what I want is the same adhesive used on the back of PSA discs, but in a spray can.
I have heard 77 (described as "General Purpose") as being a good one. 72 is listed as "Pressure Sensitive" which sounds like it would be more aplicable. I called several woodworker supply places and they didn't give me much helpful info, so here I am (I know, I should have come here first!)
So what have you guys found to work best?

Also, what is the best cleaner-uper for this stuff?
Thanks again, everyone

Wapiti,

I use Super 77 and it works fine. I have never tried any of the others. I use mineral spirits for cleanup.

I use the 77, regular strength. Spray the paper lightly. It'll stick fine, just from the pressure you apply during sanding.
Cleanup with acetone when it builds up.

I use DURO (same people that make super glue) brand spray adhesive. It works just as good as 3M 77 but it costs about half as much.

You can get it at any WAL-MART store.

Do you hear that?
That is the sound of inevitability.

At work we use a citrus oil based degreaser to remove 3M sprayglue, i would think that u can buy it in the states, offcause you can use acetone and such, but the stuff we use is non-toxic and it does not make you impotent and it smells really nice, reminds me off christmas actually.

good luck.
