Spring Cleaning Checklist and Updates
>> Check stored water and food for leaking, damage and expiration dates.
>> Update copies of documents, including bank statements, tax documents (new W2s, etc), utilities, investments, insurance policies, etc. Consider backing them up offsite on an encrypted CD as well at a family member’s home.
>> Clean your dryer ventilation hose. Dryer lint builds up over time and can become a fire hazard.
>> Swap out Spring / Summer season clothes in any get-home-bags. Make sure to leave at least one jacket or sweatshirt in case it gets cold.
>> Check medical/first aid supplies for damage and expiration dates. If your medication has changed and you store a reserve of it make sure it is up to date.
>> Check batteries in any battery powered device for corrosion and charge. Make sure all rechargeable devices are full. Consider buying a battery powered fan and a “jump pack” in case of electrical outlets. Jump packs can provide direct power for 12V devices or with an inverter it can power standard devices.
>> Clean, lubricate and inspect all firearms and other equipment. Ensure any telescopic or electronic sights are sighted in.
>> Get to know your neighbors better, hold a spring hot dog roast or drop them off some home baked goods. In any emergency, people power is more important than equipment. Find out who is a good neighbor and who isn’t, and build those relationships.
>> Get outside and get some exercise and enjoy the fresh spring air!
