I have a MT Option II and really like the idea, and it looks great with the carbon fiber scale. I was just wondering if I would be better off selling it and getting a Spydiecard and using the $$ difference to get more knives. The blade on the MT is RAZOR sharp in the true sense of the word, I mean beard and mustache shaving sharp. As far as actual use, how does it compare to the Spydercard?

Any insight on either knife would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Hmm...

Never held an Option II, but I think you'd do just fine with a Spydercard. Comparing performance:

Steel is worse in the Spydercard. That's really about it. Won't hold an edge as long, and will probably rust more easily.

Is the difference enough to pay the extra cash for an Option II? Not to me. If it's your only EDC blade, maybe, but if it's your only EDC blade, why're you using a credit card knife?

As for the edge... Spyderco blades, as far as I've seen, have come with a great edge. Not that great; I wouldn't shave with a Spydercard. But the factory edge really isn't going to matter on anything except an SD blade... and again, if it's your SD blade, why a credit card knife?

Eventually that Microtech'll dull to the point where you could get it as sharp as it is. Ditto the Spydercard. If you can get it true-shaving sharp, then it doesn't matter what the factory edge is... and if you can't, then the factory edge will only matter for a handful of uses.

The Microtech has better steel and it is lighter, but the Spydercard has a nice pointy point, which the Microtech lacks.

I've been carrying the Spydercard for a year in my wallet so far no rust and it came out of the box shaving sharp.

It's not my EDC even though I've carried it every day for the last year,(still do), it's more of an insurance policy, I forget I have it but it's always there when I need it.

For the money it's a great knife, just remember since 9-11 the authorities are more likely to consider it a concealed weapon.

Personally, if I was going to get a credit card knife I would do with the MT. The reason is kind of strange though. I would do it because I love the looks. To me, both can be had for relatively little money compared to other knives. I love the way the MT looks and think the Spyderco looks like a ****. Both will probably perform, but you only live once and I love the MT in terms of looks. I believe the blade is a bit larger as well. The additional belly will probably be helpful for some chores, but keep in mind that it is still a wallet knife.
