does anyone know whether the spydercard will trip off metal detectors at the airports or at buildings? i'm thinking of getting one, if only cos I feel the need to carry one onto a plane for utility / safety reasons...thanks. I'm thinking of stuffing it in my wallet but know that here at Changi Airport (they put your wallet through the x-ray machines as well)...

Not very likely that you could get that through, if everyone's getting their nail clippers confiscated...

Depending on the sensitivity of the machine, although since 9-11 it probably will. What they do now is x-ray your wallet and small personal items, you have to put them in a tray,( they used to just hand the tray back, now they check it. If yuo get caught they won't let you plead stupidity,( like I forgot it was in my pocket), it will be considered a concealed weapon, you will be arrested,(you may be released, but you will lose the knife), don't do it, it's not worth it, and it's irresponsible.
Also it's been said many times before on this forum, it makes it harder down the road for everyone else by making us look like criminals.

:( sigh, since 9-11, it's really tough on those wanting to carry some utility blades. I suppose SAKs are out as well?

my only experience was at Sydney airport (pre 9-11) where I was carrying a cheap kabar folder in my pc case. the security personnel spotted in in the X-ray machine and promptly asked me to take it out. she then opened the blade and waved it around (I was really trying not to attract attention and there she was, waving it around). she didn't know how to unlock the blade either....but what they did was to put it in a sealed bag, which was later handed back to me when I landed.

Read the papers a lot do you, spyken? I'm pretty sure you should give it a try and then, once you've been released from custody, let us know how it went.
