Spyderco ATR seems a natural for H-1 STEEL

So how about it? The handles are titanium, and Sal has already told us about the H-1 "Delica" called the "Salt"...made with H-1 parts to resist corrosion.

Why not make a really bold knife with no worries about corrosion, with all the features and hot design of the AtTheReady?! I think it would be the coolest thing! Everything about the knife could be titanium and H-1... H-1 screws, blade, clip, (dunno much about bushings and things myself, though)... Is it possible to make every single thing about the knife out of both of those materials?

What do you say, Sal? As a special favor to a big fan? :D

Hi Jeffrey. Are you requesting a custom piece or production run?

Overall performance of H-1, other than corrosion resistance is not on a par with S30V. I question whether there is a market for an expensive H-1 knife. Perhaps, time will tell.

That's funny, I was thinking the same thing. A "rust proof" ATR would be great!

If not H1 how about Talonite or Ti?

When I think of the ATR I think of a really well built hard use folder, not a dive knife... H1 has nowhere near the edge holding of S30V, not even close. Talonite is good stuff, but not meant for hard use at all. Ti is like H1 in that it's edge holding can't go anywhere near S30V. Hell, H1 and Ti can't even come close to the performance on my $42 Delica w/ VG10. Why would I want to pay for a $200 dollar knife that can't perform? ...Rant off.

Comparing Talonite with most steels is tricky because it really doesn't follow the same rules. Talonite is not as "tough" as most steels, which makes it unsuitable for tasks that involve impacts or prying forces. On the other hand, it holds a cutting edge extraordinarily well even when used to cut abrasive or hard materials. That makes it ideal for virtually everything that is normally done with a medium-sized folder.

I have lived with a 4" Talonite folder for a year-and-a-half now. I use it for everything: opening packages, slicing cardboard, trimming carpet, shaving wood for tinder. My only blade that has demonstrated comparable edge retention is a Bob Dozier in D2.

I'm not sure that the ATR would be a good choice for H1 or talonite, etc.

The knife was designed for martial bladecraft, for which H1 or talonite, would not be a good choice.
