I bought a carbon fiber spiderco civ. about three months ago and love it. the opening and closing is as smooth as any benchmade. and the knife has a great wicked look to it. anyone else have one? if so how do you like it? I don't use mine as that would void the warrenty, plus the blade is to big for legal carry in CT. It still makes an awsome addition to my collection.

Merely using a Spyderco knife voids the warranty?! I don't know first-hand, but haven't many people here successfully gotten replacements when their Spyderco's failed (due to manufacturing problems)?

I'm sure you could find lots of threads about the Civilian by searching. Have fun, and don't get lost in the archives... I spend many many hours back there :) Haha.

the civilian is a special knife. It was made as a last resort weapon for law inforcement personel. It has an extreme hook shaped blade with a very thin razor sharp tip that was ment to do maximum damage from a slash. this tip could easly break off if used for utility work. the knife comes in a leather, padded pouch and there is a warning about voiding the warrenty attached to the lanyard hole by a tag. the knife also comes with a paper describing the reserch behind the knife and it's purpose. if you would like to see this knife it is on PVK for $160(carbon fiber handle) a little cheaper for G10.

Mine is the G-10 version. I love the knife !! The texture on the scales is unlike anything else I have ever seen on G-10. The blade is of course wicked. I have carried mine on duty . I have alo gotten some really strange looks from other officers  (after they have seen this knife) The Civilian is really a "niche" product, I'll probably get a Matriarch in the near future.

Ahh yes, the Civilian. Mine is in Tuffram, and a beauty she is.

I have one with CF scales. I consider it mostly a curiousity item, but it obviously could be a devastating weapon in a life or death situation. Never been there and hope I never am.

Own two G-10 handle versions. Luv them! Found another on sale for 110.00, so might add a third. Its an awesome design. I was afraid the spyderco might stop making them someday, hence want a few spares.
Its legal to carry around here if its not carried as a weapon so, I only use mine of course when I go mushroom hunting. Never know when your going to spot a mushroom that needs harvesting.

I actualy own a matriarch with full serations that I carry daily. The blade is smaller so it is legal where i live. I don't use it. It is only for if I ever need to defend myself(hope I don't) I actualy got the matriarch from 1sks for like $48 on sale. Great knife for that price. The handles are that same plastic as on almost all cheaper models. I almost think that the checkering on the plastic alows for a better grip. The combination of this and the serrations I dare say that the matriarch might be even better for the application both knives were made for. I find the CF a little slippery and in a life or death situation I wouldn't want to leave anything to chance. But holding one knife in each hand there is a difference in the quality the civilian being smoother when opened. with the larger longer blade the civilian may have more of a psycological effect on a person. all in all the civ. will stay in the collection and the mat. will stay in my pocket. as for my daily use knife my endura has never given me any problems and it was cheap enough where I don't feel bad if I dull the edge or put some were and tear on it.

Will22,

That was the original Civilian before the G-10 version was made. It is now discontinued but there are plenty out there on the secondary market. They fetch a higher price than the G-10 versions because of their relative rarity. I just recently bought one from a member on GlockTalk so if you look around, you can get one.

Here's some more pics of the aluminum civilian:

The plain edge ones are very hard to find and fetch a huge price tag!

Hot damn...Now I know what my next folder is going to be!.:D.

...And I thought that my 2 Spydie Chinooks look "scary"..

I got mine at a small BM shop here, but like TOTC said, they pop up now and again. I've seen some for sale here on the forum as well. To me, the Tuffram version is the sweetest of the three, although I'd like to add the others somewhere down the line. They would make a nice trio.

Nice collection, you have a few more than I do. I almost purchased a grunting for the pure uniqueness of it. probably will get one soon. Glad I shined some light on a somewhat unknown knife.

I have the g-10 version and a friend of mine bought the carbon fiber. I love this knife. It carries very nice since it is fairly "slim" and it is lighter than the Sifu or the Buck Strider. That is why it is my dress nice knife. It carries well in slacks. I agree it is a pretty scary looking knife, not as scary as a Ryan #1 but a strong second.

Thanks, pretty nice I think I might have to pick one up. where can they be found and for how much?
