Spyderco Kumo.

Just ordered one myself (along with 2 ZDP-189 Calypso Jrs). I'm supposed to receive it the 21st. I fell in love with it the first time I saw it. If I'm the first one on the block to get one, I'll be sure to post pictures and my impressions.

we can expect some feedbacks next week from the collector club members...

I hope so!

I've been waiting, sorta patiently, since Kristi told us a month ago (Aug 16th) that they were shipping that week. It's not that I'm anxious or anything :(

I have one on pre-order too. Really looking forward to it. Not a collector, so mine will be a regular prod. model.

I got my Kumo today. Very cool knife. It's my first japanese styled fixed blade. I really dig the silk wrapping and rayskin. This is one of those knives that I really have absolutely no need for, but have anyway. I'm not going to carry it. It'll probably open a lot of mail, but that's about it. Still, I'm glad I bought it. I do wish it was bigger though. :p

Here's a couple quick and dirty pics.

Pretty cool looking utility blade. I will probably end up getting one to match my Benchmade JuJu.

cool pics Planterz! Could you also shoot some pictures of kumo holding in hand? That will give me a better sense of its size.
Thanks!

Congratulations on recieving your Kumo Planterz.....
It sure would be a nice addition to any Spyderco collection, and whilst it is your first Japanese-styled blade, I'm sure that this would make it even more special. I always love the simplistic nature of Japanese style bladeware, and the Kumo is no exception, with the Spyderco logo providing a uniquely distinct American touch. :)

A general inquiry in regards to the Kumo...
Can anyone tell me if the Kumo, is Spyderco's pakal dedicated knife ?
I have read a thread which discussed the need for a pakal oriented knife, and the notion was to have Spyderco design one, in cooperation with the public whom desired such a product. When I first saw this knife, I noticed that it appeared to be suited for use in pakal grip, and assumed that it was infact the pakal oriented knife which I had read about, even though I am not 100% sure that such a knife is even in the works, or it could also just be Spyderco's answer to the BM Snody designed JuJu..... I'm not sure, so anyone care to inform me ?
Is this the Spyderco pakal knife ?, or if not, Is there going to be one ?

Tried, but they all looked like garbage (blury, awkwardly bent). Instead, here's a comparison shot (top to bottom: Benchmade 710HS, Kumo, Calypso Jr. ZDP-189, SPOT Micarta).

Planterz,
Thanks for the pictures. It doesn't look too small. I still want one.

infamous,
The Pakal dedicated knife is a folder and AFAIK is still being worked on.

Gerard Breuker & 4 s ter; Thankyou for the update. :)
It's great news to know that the knife will be a folder.

I keep an eye on NGK for this one, as I only deal with them because of their good service and my great distance away. To date, not a peep about the Kumo. C'mon NGK...at least have a pre-order section. I missed out on the first batch of Rs. Luckily they got another. Might not happen with the Kumo.

The Kumo is a new production model not a sprint run (limited to 1500 or less). Therefore, production of the Kumo will not be cut off by a set limit on production numbers, just when sales don't support it's continued production.

p.s. I'm waiting (impatiently) for NGK to list the Kumo also. :D
