Spyderco Native or Delica?

Just when I thought I had made my decision and back at square one. Unfortunately there are no places in my area that carry either so that I can compare. Anyone have a preference between the two? I would liek something close to the size of a swiss army knife and far as blade size goes and these two seem to fit the bill. I just can't decide which to order. Any online places that someone could recommend as well? Thanks,

p.s. looking at the stainless handled versions.

Mustang,I owned a Native for a few days.It didn't fit my hands.Had there been a knife store locally ,where I could have handled one,I could have avoided this brief encounter with the Native.Nice knife, just doesn't feel right to me.The Delica on the other hand fit like a glove(pun intended). One won't be enough, tho.I've got close to a dozen now!Good luck on your quest.tom.

They are slightly different beasties. It's probably worth working out what you want the knife for, then the decision will be easier.

The Delica is a fine slicing tool, nice and thin and the AUS-6 takes a very fine edge. The point is quite thin, so wouldn't take a lot of abuse, but has advantages in that the tip will also cut very well.

The Native on the other hand is beefier all round, thicker steel and thicker handle. The tip is stronger than that of the Delica because of it's spearpoint design, which makes it good for poking things ;)
Until I got my SNG the Native was the medium sized folder I reached for when there was the possibilty of tough chores.
Also the steel on the SS NAtive is quite a bit better than that on the Delica.

Both great knives though.

Unless you plan on doing some prying with your folder, get the (SS PE) Delica. I have a pair of stainless Delicas, and it's my 2nd favorite folder...(The SS SE Spyderco Police model is my favorite).

Although, the native is my favorite, the FRN Delica is a wonderful knife. The blade is a great slicer and VG-10 steel is great. The Native is a more stout handful of a knife that has a stronger point. S30V steel on the standard Native is great also. You can't make a wrong choice.:D

I've owned a Delica for a number of years and last year my wife purchased herself a Native. After handling both of them I can say that they are both great knives. We both prefer the Native however. The construction seems a little better (hers is a Golden, CO made one) and I like the handle and blade profile better. I still like my Delica a lot, it's a great knife, but if I was looking for another knife in that catagory I would choose the Native instead.

I Guess I´ll just add to the controversy, I have a Native and a Delica, both FRN, and preffer the Delica.

The Native seems very comfortable if you allways use a saber grip, with index finger up in the choil, otherwise not so much, the Delica seemes more verastile.

The Native is stronger, the Delica has that Delicate (pun intended) pointy tip.

So, as yog said, what do you want the knife for ?, if you can´t decide you may end up getting both, like me and others.

I like both the handle and the blade shape of the Native, either FRN or SS (I had the FRN [lost that one] and I now have the SS)
I like the Endura more than the Delica.

Both :D

I carry a blue G-10 Native in my RF pocket and a CF Delica in a Mike Sastre neck sheath. Both designs are great examples of Spyderco design and quality.

With 3 Delicas (CF, SS and FRN) and 4 Natives (SS, FRN and G-10) I guess you can tell I haven't been able to decide (but if I had to choose 1, it would be the Native). The only comment I would make about the SS versions is that the Native has a blade steel (AUS-10)which should perform a bit better than the Delica (AUS-6).

I like the design of the Delica better, wished it had S30V steel. To me, the Delica epitomises the spyderco, with the hump and downward sloping blade shape.

The native looks too fat (from a design perspective), but I understand it's got good ergonomics.

I wish spyderco made something in between the Endura and Delica, with full flat grind and S30V and G10. :D

In case you didn't already know (and perhaps you do) your wish about to be fulfilled :D :D. The eagerly expected Spyderco Paramilitary will have:
  • 3.25" full flat grind S30V blade (profile similar to Spyderco Military and more belly than the Endura/Delica),
  • Black G10 handles,
  • Compression lock (like that on the Lil' Temperance and ATR).
Search on the Spyderco area for more info. It feels like 'THE ONE' for me. Well, that and a micarta Calypso Jr. :)
