Review: Spyderco Poliwog Knife
"Her's a look at the Spyderco Poliwog pocket knife. (pic via Spyderco) Earlier this year I bought a Spyderco Manix 2 pocket knife. Great knife and built like a tank, absolutely rock-solid. The 154CM steel is great and I like the tough G-10 handles and the new ball-bearing lock. The only problem is that is was a touch too large and heavy for me to carry in my dress trousers or chinos in the office. I felt like Crocodile Dundee. The blade was nearly 3.5" long (3 3/8 in.).
In my search for something with a more subtle size I found the Spyderco Poliwog. Like the Manix 2, the Poliwog uses the ball-bearing lock and has G-10 sides. And the blade is a much more reasonable 2 5/16" long.
The knife arrived yesterday and it's perfect. Fits the hand perfectly.
As with the other Spyderco knives they cost more than many of the knives in the blister packages at WalMart and sporting goods stores. But I think they are worth it. Very well made by a company that backs its products well. And they don't use cheap steels in the knives. This model uses VG-10 stainless steel. I also have a thing for gimmicky knives, I've had a Spyderco Meerkat for years."
