I have been collecting Spyderco's for about 15 years now. I have 8 right now, but after my contact with their warranty department today, I told them I'd never buy another. A month ago I purchased my first paramilitary 2 off the net, brand new for $150. Not a cheap knife as anyone here will agree. I wanted to change the position of the pocket clip, like it's designed to do, and to my surprise one screw would not tighten in the new hole, and after I got it out, would not go back in the old one either. After my fumbling around with them I lost one. So I got out another para 2 I bought after I bought this one, took the screws out of it, same thing. None would work. So yesterday I contacted Spyderco thinking they would happily fix it. BOY was I surprised. A very hateful woman was speaking to me on the phone, never said, "I'm sorry your having problems with your knife, and we will take care of you", told me I'd have to include $5 for return shipping. This ticked me off. It is their problem of making a knife that doesn't do what it's supposed to do. It was going to cost me at least $10 to ship it insured to them, then they dis believe my story that it was covered under warranty, and asked me to pay for return shipping. This was a insult to me. I'll never buy another Spyderco, and will very soon have all mine up on eBay for sale, CHEAP!

So if I understand this correctly, you bought a knife off of "the Net", you don't say if it was from a dealer or a private party advertising it as new. You took a screw out, you couldn't get said screw back in ANY hole, and that's Spyderco's fault? I'm not sure why you're so upset with a mere $5.00 shipping charge on a knife that you by your own admission is "expensive". I have never heard anything but great reviews about Spyderco and their CS. In fact, I have had Mr. Glesser respond personally to posts I have made on their forum. He is always polite and professional. I'm not getting why you think that a $5.00 shipping charge to fix a knife you messe up is so outrageous? What if you're at fault? What if the knife was purchased, someone stripped the screws, and sent it back as a return with the screws stripped?

Hi, spyderco's warranty department is named Charlynn. Hateful? No, I think you must have meant helpful or something of that nature. If you read spyderco's warranty you'll see that she could have told you to take a hike, however she didn't. No one's forcing you to buy their knives.

Later,
Kirby

Well, I first want it to be seen! Yes it was bought from a dealer, and No it wasn't my fault. Why put 4 options for clip placement on a knife if you are never to use them! I have had warranty work done many times in the past from other manufacturers and custom knife makers, Grayman knives charged me no return shipping. Very friendly people. The customer is always right! I have sent knives to Benchmade, and Zero Tolerance as well!

Everyone seems to have problems with customer service these days..... Beats me. I've talked to CS of the three major companies, BM Kershaw and Spyderco, many times and each time I was treated respectfully and my problems were always handled.

I must be doing something wrong. I have owned knives for 45 years and I do have hundreds of them. I have never had to send a knife in for warranty.

Man this forum must be full of smart aleck Yankees! Is Spyderco paying you jerks for your sweet replies? I'm not new at this. I have been buying knives for 40 years, and have spent thousands of dollars on them. I don't need a bunch of idiots telling me anything about knives. I don't care if I get thrown off this stupid forum. This is America, and I have the right to express my disgust. EVERY CUSTOMER DESERVES RESPECT! If you can't do that you won't be in business long.

I don't even know where to start with this post.

Grow up.

Spyderco customer service was so good that they changed my paramilitary s30v blade to a s90v for free....kidding lol but can you imagine
Long live spyderco

You don't deserve respect and if you talk to CS like you post here... I can see why they'd think there's a good possibility that you messed it up.

CS, Yankees, who do you like? Sux you are having an issue, but could you have been interpreted as "attacking" her right off the bat? I've done my fair share of CS work and if a customer is aggressive, I stay kind for a few minutes and try to calm them, but if they stay aggressive, I'm not likely to be as helpful.

The $5 is a standard thing, most likely it would have still been there when it was returned to you. The two knives I've sent in have came back with their $5 bills each time.

After reading the OP's posts in this thread, I think the real problem is fairly obvious. And it's not Spyderco customer service.

Enough with your petty insults, consider this your only warning on the matter. You came here to blow hot air about this, you weren't asked. So don't go getting your undies in a wad over the replies you get. By the sweet disposition and good nature tone of your multiple threads, I just cannot imagine why you were disrespected.
So, we're the idiots and you are the only one acting the part. Hmmm, sounds about right I guess. Why did you not send your knife back to the place you bought it for an exchange? What I see is that you have some entitlement issues there guy. You demand respect, and by golly this is 'Murica, I will not be censored!
