On Friday night I added one to my collection. Went back to the Shopping Mall where the outdoor shop had the "Spyderco Summer sale" at the end of January. Well, to my surprise it was still on so i grabbed a Spyderhawk at a good price.

I had been picking up the Spyderhawk at the various dealers and checking it out every once and a while for the past two years, but something flashier always came along. I guess when i saw that it had been dropped from the 2006 catalogue, that was my motivation to get one, so when a good price came along i just grabbed it :)

It has a very impressive blade, something like a Harpy or Merlin on steroids! The point also seams sturdier than on the Civilian, so i was happy. Can't see why this model was dropped, must have been sales figures. But that is sad, cause this is one scary cutter.

Andre I couldn't agree with you more. I do think in about 2 years the Spyderhawk will be one of the most coveted Spydercos in this decade. It's a terribly misunderstood knife in the Spyder line up  .

It is not only a great self defense knife but I discovered it is an excellent hard use/hard work knife as well.

The knife was officially discontinued here in the states after the 2003 catalog. I have heard that overseas is a different story.

Spyderco's Hawkbills are truly classics from the day they are made ;)

What JD said.;)

Spyderhawks are awesome cutters. I regretted selling mine immediately after I did it.

Good thing I got another one coming:D

Another vehement acclamation! BTW when's the superhawkbill expected? So much exciting spydie news I can't seem to keep up.

They show up on ebay pretty often. I just picked up one on ebay for 85 smackers. The plain edge ones still show up from time to time.
cheers,

Superhawkbill??? I need to hear more about this!!!

The Super Hawk is a large(Spyderhawk sized) MBC rated Hawkbill.

It's the high end Hawkbill that several members(some of which have posted in this thread already;) )on the Spyderco home forum have been clamoring for for quite a while now.

As it is now, it's expected to have an MBC rated nested compression lock, ambi clip(not sure if it's tip up or down off the top of my head) peel ply carbon fiber scales, and blade steel I don't remember.

It's going to be one heck of an awesome knife. But it's still in the concept phase I believe, so the chance of getting one in my hand this year are nonexistent, next year we're really lucky, but I wouldn't expect it before 2008. Of course I'm pessimistic.

Ask JD Spydo for details about, he's the President of the Hawkbill Nation, and the one who's been rallying the troops to the Hawkbill cause.;)

What Scott is referring to is a little thread on the Spyderco.com Forum. It is entitled "Now's The Time: For A New Hawkbill". It is located in the GENERAL DISCUSSION slot of that Forum. Trouble is you need to read the entire thread to really grasp what is going on. It will only take you a few minutes though  .

Yes the people have been wanting a New Hawkbill for some time now. Actually the long term goal is for a complete series of them.

Being this is a Spyderhawk thread and the Spyderhawk being one of my personal sentimental favorites I would at least like a Spyderhawk with a G-10 handle>>> just something to get us by until we see the SuperHawk> No Scott I think we are going to see it sooner than 08. But in the meantime a G-10 Spyderhawk would get us by

A few minutes:eek: More like a few days, that beast is 100 pages long...

I hope you're right JD, and I'd buy a G-10 Spyderhawk to shut me up til the Super Hawk comes out.;)

Instead of the endura handle, why not use the g10 civilian handle? That would be a much more substantial grip, wouldn't it?

cheers,

Thanks Axlis :)

Hey guys, the Super Hawk sounds cool.... i wouldn't mind a Spyderhawk size knife with (color) G10 scales and CPM-S30V blade steel.

My spyderhawk arrived yesterday!
man, what a great knife. The handle is better than I had heard and is actually stamped "spyderhawk" not the endura stamp I had heard about. The blade is large but not as huge as the Civilian, although it certainly commands respect. When my wife saw it, her eyes went wide,(before she rolled them). "another knife", she said, shaking her head. All in all, a great deal for 85 bucks. I found a few reviews on this model -- any more thoughts?
cheers,

naah, I was outbid, but it was offered to me as a second chance. Apparantly the first guy didn't pay up

Yeah...my comment is that you're probably the dirty dog that outbid me!:p

It was probably me. I sniped a Spyderhawk auction last week.

If your Ebay name is similar to your forum name, I was the one who outbid you:o I happily paid up, the seller may have had an extra. It's not uncommon for sellers to do such a thing.

DOH! , no offence, I was just guessing, I have never been offered a second chance deal before, sorry. yep, my ebay name is similar to my bf name. I love the knife, what a cool blade.

None taken;) I've had second chance offers before, sometimes on the knife I won:confused: I've had sellers offer to sell me an additional knife(the same one) for the same cost, minus shipping. It's cool, if the price was good;)
