any body got a spydewrench? I've thought about getting one for a while, and wanted to know about them. Right now I carry different leathermans, and sometimes a sog tool. If Im not mistaken they dont make spydewrenches anymore, is this correct? There is a guy that sells them on ebay that claims to be the co designer with spyderco of the spydewrench. Any info would be nice.............thanks in advance guys....

The gentleman selling them on eBay is either the designer or his son. In either case, he is a very honest and reliable seller. The 'Rench has been out of production for some time and his auctions are probably the only place you will find them on a regular basis. Sal occasionally states that a new and improved version is in the works, but not sure of the timetable on that. It definitely has the best knife of any multitool. The adjustable wrench can come in real handy at times and the replaceable standard size bits allow some flexibility. On the down size, it's a bit of a brick.

Word on the street is that we'll have a new spyderench during summer. I'd hold out for that, but I'm always like 4 inches away from buying a Spyderench. I actually bid on one up to 90 bucks but the Spyderench isn't worth the 120 it got up to (to me).

That guy, I think he's called KindDog or something like that. Dog and dinosaur not included. Nice guy.

The Spydewrench is a great tool. - Really built like a tank.

It is great for what it is designed for.

The only reason I gave mine away, was I really would rather have a saw, or a serrated knife to accompany the primary blade on a multi-tool.

It is the only Multitool that i've had that actually is comfortable for clip carry. All edges are rounded nicely, and it rides low in your pocket.

If I remember correctly, he is the designer. This question popped up some time ago, and it was confirmed by reliable sources(sorry, can't remember who) that he was in fact the designer.

Martin Beck is the designer of the SpydeRench. A few months ago, Sal Glesser confirmed on the Spyderco.com Forum that:

"Marty Beck is the original inventor of the Rench. He is, as he said, putting together the last of the castings. If you can get one, it will probably be a good one."

Hope this helps!

I have used mine for over two years. It is a great tool. Buy one you'll be glad you did.

the last one went for about 140$...I hope to get one cheaper, but who knows...usually as soon as one auction ends, another one starts, and seems to usually be non serrated edge on the knife part...

I have seen the ones on eBay go from $80 to $150. Be sure to keep an eye here on the selling forums. That is where I got mine. I do not carry mine, but it is one of those pieces that I just wanted in my collection. They are pretty nice. Here are a few pics of mine.

I do wonder when a new one will be released. I want a Spyderench, but I want to hold onto my cash for the improvements.

At least it looks like it's getting closer. KnifeCenter just posted news about the SHOT show saying:

"The Shooting Hunting and Outdoor Trade show just ended with some great new products being announced. Spyderco will offer their Endura and Delica models with the Emerson WAVE opening device in the near future. Also available from them will be the return of the Spyderwrench."

:D Oh my god I want one of those!

Before I read this thread I had never, even once in my life heard of them. I know what the first thing I get will be after the new ones come out.

I have got to start looking at this forum more. This isn't the first thing I didn't know about.

Well the first day went ok.. it fit in my jeans pocket well, and stayed there. It is a little heavy but when its in your pocket it really dont seem to bother you much. It was a little tuff to open some times... maybe it will break in a little, w'ell see...

Blade was razor sharp, I have to say that..........

So far I like it ok guys....I like the clip carry option, and the weight is not bad. I am an electrician by trade, so I wish it had some wire cutters on it, and a smaller tip tunnel port screwdriver, for hooking up control wiring. All in all I think I might end up carrying it in conjunction with my old style leatherman wave, unless I am not wearing a belt.
