I was at the doctors office today and when I stood up after they called my name I heard an awful sound. The sound of the clip on my Small Sebenza being bent out of shape.

The thing that made this really bad is that it was a new style clip that I just bought on 6/8 at the Blade Show. The end of the clip was standing about .25" from the lock bar.

After I got home I was able to fix it luckily. I just put the screw end of the clip in a nylon jawed vice and slowly bent it back. Tragedy averted, but I was one sad puppy for a couple of minutes there. Praises to the resilience of titanium.

Paul, I think you need to get a new doctor. If these people were so inconsiderate, and seemingly so unconcerned about such a tragic accident, then they have NO business in the medical field! I mean your bp must have been off the chart!

No, if my doc had treated me this way; allowing me to sit through a visit with my clip bent all out of shape; I would be for finding the nearest lawyer and hitting them with a malpractice suit!

I mean didn't even offer any first aid to your Sebbie...........whats the world of medicine comming too.

how did that happen??

i was thinking of changing clips on mine,
should i stay with the old?

i have carried it everyday for over 3 years
with NO problem of any kind. But i does
wear the denim.

I don't think it was the clip design. The new clip is superior to the old one, though I suspect it will be just as hard on the pants pockets. It had more to do with the narrow chairs in the waiting room, or perhaps the width of my posterior. I didn't even look at the arm of the chair to see if I damaged the wood.

I guess next time I'll sit in one of the chairs without an arm rest.

I really prefer to carry my Sebenzas in a sheath (a Graley or the nylon ones from CRK), but that's hard to do sometimes in the summer.

Waaaaahahahahahah, Fuuuuuuunnny!

Don't mean to seem insensitive, its just that for one I know Paul personally and I can just see this happening to him at the doctors office and two it happened to his and not mine
smile.gif

But I know that sick feeling all too well myself. My last horror happened just days after I got my LCC and while on vacation I went to get out of the car and YANK! Bent the clip straight out form the handle…Thought I was gonna ralph.

I messed around with my new style clip with a pan-o-vise and now it is very secure and keeps my large tightly clipped to my pocket-unless you pull it straight up, it's not going anywhere! I like it that way with my large, since I use it for work and it is getting banged around and bumps into things.
The only thing I don't like about the new style clip is the "lip" of the clip (part the is at the very bottom when clipped) sticks out a bit far.
cheers,
Derek

Keith,
Anything to brighten your day!

I got a chuckle out of you getting such a kick out of that.

Derek,
It's funny you should mention that type of vise. I actually used a Panavise to hold the clip. I was skeptical about that vise when I got it but it has been great for little things like that.

Paul

the panovise is a gift from the gods-right up there with the dremel tool-and both can be equally damaging for the "at home gunsmith!"
I love how tight my clip is, but can't remember how I did it.
cheers,
Derek

Heck,

I usually carry mine in the leather case they came with. That works fine for me..

I carry a small unique everyday.. Why don't you try that?

Oh man...Has laughing at Paul come back to bite me in the @*#, today had been a great day, I just signed all the papers for the closing for my new house and all was good. Once I got home though...I was sitting in my chair and went to stand, no yank, no horrible sound, no scratching noise...Just a feeling of my clip getting caught as I stood up. I really didnt think I did anything to it until I looked....AAAaaaarrrggggg!!! The first thing I thought of was responding to this post yesterday and thinking it was funny that it happened to pauls and not mine, let me tell you, I was wrong, there is NOTHING funny about this, this time it was mine. My clip didnt just bend away from the handle, it bend sideways from the handle, NOT easy to rebend let me tell you.
Being in the process of moving I dont have much to work with so I had to rebend the clip using my Swisstool and Supertool and some cardboard from a Pepsi carton for padding...after I got done scratching it back into shape I had to sand it to make it look better.
See...Its always funny when it happens to someone else. Now Im sorry for laughing at my friend Emil when he used his LCC as a screwdriver and snapped the tip off, after he got done trying to reprofile it, it now looks like a Spyderco hunter model....Im sorry, but I still think thats funny
biggrin.gif
Waahahahahah! Oh man Im gonna pay for this!

Keith,
What a bummer. I wouldn't have seen any humor in it if mine hadn't bent back so easily. Congratulations on the new house though. Poor Emil, he was lovin' that LCC too. *snicker* Did I do that?
wink.gif
I guess we've all had that sinking feeling before at one time or another.

Paul

My condolences to both of you

I got to experience that feeling two days ago. Not the clip, but the tip.
I was fooling around, cutting a piece of callous from my fingertip that had partially torn off, of all things.
Was holding the small Sebenza with two fingers, and managed to drop it.
And it landed tip first....on concrete.
Luckily the tip didn't break, the edge just rolled right at the tip (it was very obvious, though). A little forceful steeling, and stropping on a stone got it back in line, and I resharpened the whole blade to keep everything even.
The sharp factory tip probably would have broken off, but mine was already "custom rounded" by my secret Sharpmaker technique

Oh man, Im glad mine was just the clip! I havent ever dropped my Sebenza...Yet.

My clip looks great now, After about 20min of working it over with some sandpaper and another 15min with my Dremel and a tube of Metal glow, I now have a mirror finish on the clip.

On a decorated model this little modification really looks good on it. Id recommend doing this even before you bend the clip and are forced into it

What an awful feeling! I am still trying to visulize how it could happen. Hmm...narrow upholstered chair?

Steve-O

I don't know if you were talking about you or me Keith, but I'm right in the ballpark. 6'3" 250lbs.
eek.gif
It was actually a upholstered chair with narrow wood arm rests. They had chairs without arm rests, but this one was by the magazine table. Doh!

OwenM,
I cringed when I read your post! At least you didn't loose any of the tip. I bet you could feel your heart skip a beat.

Paul
