Stacked Leather Washer Handles HELP...

Folks,

I've got a couple of 1950ish sheath knives with stacked leather washer handles. Both of the knives have a great deal of sentimental value to me so I don't want to mess things up, but the leather has begun to dry (I think) and shrink so now the pommels are loose.

Any prefered methods to either re-oil the handles, or re-seal them? Neither of the knives see daily use, but I want them to last for the future.

Cheers,
D

What I would do, is first, tighten down the pommel. You might have to make a tool, if the nut is the spanner variety. Next, squirt some super glue around each individual washer, let it soak in and dry. Then sand any irregularities, and apply a coat of Kiwi, neutral shoe wax.
Recoat with shoe wax, after heavy use, or if stored, do it once a year or so.BTW, buff the handle after the wax job.;)

Thanks mate....I'll give that a try. I've only used leather for handles once, and butchered them - so I was bit leary of destroying these ones.

Cheers,
D
